It was a hot 100 degree day in eastern Colorado while we were on vacation. We finally arrived at Mesa Verde. We got out of the car and I look over and saw my aunts and cousins that we were supposed to meet there. We went to the ranger station and saw the displays of the actual 600 year old pottery and jewelry that were found in the dwellings. It was so very cool. We then decided which tour we were going to go on and purchased our tickets. Our guide gathered us all together at the beginning of our tour and the first thing we had to do was to go down many many steps and with each step I found myself getting more and more excited to actually see these ancient Indian dwellings. We arrived at the final 25 foot
ladder going down and then I lost my balance as my hand slipped off the rung of the ladder. I could feel my heart pumping wildly, as I almost fell. The sight I saw when I got off the ladder was certainly worth it, there were these amazing ancient homes still in tact after hundreds of years. We were able to walk into some of the dwellings. When I looked up you could still see the black soot on the ceilings from their cook fires. The homes, or dwellings, were built on top of each other with small tunnels we were able to crawl through to get up to the next next level. It was really something to see and experience. We got of of there homes. I was walking, looking at the amazing seen in front of me then I almost fell down a giant hole in the ground. I was too busy looking at the buildings and almost fell!! The holes were for parties but it use to have roof on it, but they took it off. I need to be a lot more careful 1st I almost fell of a latter then almost fall into a hole!!! The tour was over and we got to another latter and and I know to be careful.
