I became an officer of one of the two tribes at camp. All the girls are spilt into the two different tribes for various competitions. The officers consist of two scouts, a squaw, a scribe, a med man, and a chieftain in that order. The girls of the tribe then elect their officers. I was scribe and med man during my last two years respectively. Starguiders are girls unanimously chosen by counselors to be emerging leaders. As a starguider I would focus on girls who were having a difficult time at camp or who were homesick and find a way to help them. We also did a service project for the camp each year in order to keep the camp looking its best. One year we made a bunk notes box to be placed by the office. Bunk notes were letters that parents could write to their kids, and then the kids would write one in return and give it to the office to have it emailed to the parents. Giving the letters directly to the office had began to be disorganized. We measured the size of the papers to make the box and then we painted it with the colors of the camp. We painted a star in the middle, a symbol that the starguiders had made it.
Every year the camp brought in a great group of girls. Having been chosen for officer positions and a starguider among those girls truly made it an honor. I value being highly regarded for my leadership in a place I love so much. Every year as I returned home from camp I tried to keep the same mind set as I had there, one of leadership. This is when I discovered that I did not need a title to be a leader. I could be a leader in everyday life by my
