Personal Narrative: My Varsity Basketball Team
I was the first freshman to make the varsity basketball team in six years. My freshman year season was excellent I helped my team reach the semifinals but we ended up losing that game. Sophomore year came around and the season was just a few months away I had got better and mentally ready for the school year and the season but overnight all of that would change. In late October had just got home from the gym playing basketball with my friends my day was going marvelous it was late at night and I had school the next day but I kept rolling and turning in bed just didn’t feel right. Then at one point having a quick second of me gasping for air. So I went to my parents room and my mom was in fear that my entire face was swollen. She told me to …show more content…
So some time had passed, and I was missing a lot of school because I was staying in the hospital during these times really felt useless and couldn’t do much of anything about it. Every week my heart was giving out on me felt as when you ball your fist up and your nails stab your skin. I hated going to school because all eyes were on me and I didn’t like the feel of that. I’m Sitting in my English class and we were reading “ To Kill a mocking bird” it was my turn to read and I felt my heart in my chest just stop and I hit the ground. Everything happened so quick; this one was the worst of them all. When I regained consciousness I had a automated external defibrillator attached to my chest my school nurse then started to give chest to chest compressions. Basketball season was going on at this time I was on the team but could hardly ever play because of everything that was happening with me at the time. My sophomore year ended for me early which was dreadful. It’s my senior year now and I’m healthy and have more motivation than I ever had I’ve learned that their is nothing to big that can stop you. Taking AP classes this year and even when I’m tired and still have work to do I just stop and remember the times that I couldn’t do my work because of always being in the hospital. Life through my eye’s is different i'm thankful for every second I

I have always strived for my best in everything I do. I never accept failure; however during my sophomore year of high school, I was put through a difficult challenge. I have always dreamt of becoming an athletic student but I have always never gotten a chance because of my discouragement that I would not make the team. In my sophomore year, I decided to try out for the tennis team. I was confident of my status as the new athlete in the Dominion High School tennis team. After the week long try outs, I was given the disappointing news that I had not made the team. I was very disappointed but that did not stop me from continuing to work hard and work on my mistakes. Throughout the summer, I practiced with former Dominion High School tennis players…

The intense roaring of the crowd gradually faded into the vast abyss of his mind. As the last seconds ticked away, his breath got heavier and he knew that it was now or never. He knew he had to make the shot, he could not just mess this one up. At that last moment when the ball left his hands flying into the air, time seemed to have slowed down as the buzzer went off simultaneously.…

As a player for the Hanford West basketball team, I was placed into situations that required me to step up and be the leader of the team. One of these situations was during a game when our most talented player had been injured. I know my teammates relied on me to be the one to look up to for all the answers. I was certain I would have to go beyond my capabilities to lead this unit to victory. The game started off horribly because of the evident lack of effort from our team. As the commander of this group of young men I knew something had to change. I stepped out of my comfort zone and became very vocal in order to get some motivation pumping through our veins. Every time my teammates made a play I would be sure to acknowledge them in some way, whether it was a high five or a nod. This made me realize feedback is essential when taking on the leadership role in order to boost self the confidence of others. As the game went on we managed to pull off an outstanding team victory.…

It all began with a simple phone call one night after dinner. “Joe,” my father hollered up the stairs, “it’s for you. It’s Jackie, and she sounds upset.” As I came downstairs to pick up the phone, I was not happy. I was tired and had looked forward to a nice and quiet evening at home, not another stupid adventure with Jackie.…

I was an eight year old kid when I had my first ever glimpse of the NBA Basketball. It was a lanky afro manchild doing a reverse dunk versus Indiana right in front of the Laker crowd. Crowd was in awe, Commentators were ecstatic and Kevin Harlan in his usual voice saying, Kobe can’t be denied. That day, my love affair with the Los Angeles Lakers started.…

On January 26th, I made a huge error in my basketball game against West Central. To anybody else, that game might have seemed unimportant- insignificant really. They were not a conference rival or a sectional team. To me however, this game was very significant because I used to attend that school. At that game, I played all of my friends from kindergarten to fifth grade. I hoped that I didn’t make a fool of myself. I hoped to do amazing so that all of my old friends would see what a great basketball player I had become. I hoped that I would make a play so amazing that everyone would remember it. While I would certainly not forget the play I made, it was not the spectacular one I had dreamed. My gym teacher- Mr. Prairie asked the class, “Who’s ready for the basketball game tonight against West Central,” and I wondered if I was. Because of my insistent worrying I could not manage to make a play through all of gym class (we were playing basketball)…

For as long as I remember, I have been raised with a basketball hoop. This hoop stood firmly, looking down at the trees secured by patches of cement in my backyard, in my neighborhood, Dorchester. This hoop was my center of faith and tranquility surrounded by gunfires, shattering windows, car alarms. As a girl, I learned not to adventure any place else other than this hoop because going beyond its faded lines on the concrete is an unknown world full of hazards and danger. And when I did cross these seraphic lines, I could sense the bittersweet emotions running throughout the neighborhood, my home.…

My freshman year, I decided to join my high school Cross Country team. When I started running, it quickly became clear that I was not a gifted athlete. I was slow and often did not enjoy the sport. When the season first started, it took me forty minutes to run a 5k. This time was appalling but oddly, it was what kept me from giving up. There were times when I wanted to quit and go back to never running but the thought of that forty-minute 5k stopped me from doing so. I stayed on the team and pushed myself harder and harder every day. When I felt like stopping, I made myself go even further. I came to practice every single day and sometimes I stayed late. On the days that we did not have practice as a team, I ran on my own. I was dedicated…

Growing up, I was never naturally athletic and very injury prone. Regardless of these issues, I always remained determined and strived to accomplish my goals. As I enter high school one of my main goals was to make the varsity tennis team. During my freshmen year I practiced every day for the first 3 months of school hoping that I could just make the team. Unfortunately I tore a ligament in my wrist for the second time which prevented me from practicing till right before the tennis season started. I ended barely making the JV team which was very disappointing, but it only motivated me for next year. In my heart I knew that I if I was determined enough I could play varsity next year on my own merit. As I progressed through the sophomore year,…
