Personal Narrative: My Work Ethic In High School
Being a senior in high school, I have had countless ups and countless downs during my journey through adolescence. While my duty as a ball girl is over one occurrence that remained was the want for a job that allows me to excel. Being a ball girl helped me access my work ethic. One of the managers at my job once made the comment that I was able to accomplish the work of four servers combined. Unfortunately for myself, my work ethic wasn’t always brought to light when it came to my education. During my freshman year of high …show more content…

I learned a lesson all the way back in first grade, and that lesson has stuck with me ever since. I was coming in from recess, and I was talking to a friend of mine off to my left. Unfortunately, I was not watching where I was going. I kept barely taking glances of what was in front of me, and that was a huge mistake. Someone was running behind me, and wasn’t watching where they were going either. As I approached the building I heard yelling, but thought nothing of it. After all, recess had just finished, so obviously kids would be yelling, right? It turns out some kids had been playing tag, and decided to play until they got inside. One that was still running away, because God forbid he’d be “it,” was Nick.…

At the beginning of my part-time waitressing position at Isaac’s, I took up more work than I could handle. A Sunday night dinner shift was around the corner, and I was not prepared. Looking back to when I dismissed any forms of constructive criticism or help, I have since realized that accepting advice, taking responsibility, and making changes to my attitude have helped me develop a work ethic where I am more passionate for learning new things. I was still adapting my work environment while also juggling honors and AP school work during my training when my managers instructed me to serve a table on my own for the first time. Furthermore, my newly profound skills at serving have helped a great deal in improving my proficiency at school and everyday life.…

An important constructive criticism that I had received was from my grade 8 teacher. As a young child, I was always extremely cautious about what I do and say. My teacher once told me to put myself out there and to not be too meticulous. This was one of my flaws because I liked to be comfortable, I liked being in the known, and I definitely did not like the possibility of failure. Often times, my flaws limit my ability to take new opportunities where I can gain experience. My teacher’s advice gave me a push towards trying new things even though it was quite difficult stepping out of my comfort zone and be spontaneous.…

When I first moved to Pinellas Park from Hillsborough County about seven years ago, I was upset. I was upset that we were leaving behind a perfectly good house with perfectly good friends to move closer to my extended family. I wondered why we were changing when change wasn’t needed? It was time for a new school, new house, and worst of all, it was time to make new friends. As several years past by, I realized they made one of the best decisions ever because if I hadn’t moved, I would’ve have never found the hidden gem called St. Petersburg Collegiate High School. I still remember my freshman year at Pinellas Park High School like it was yesterday. I did not take my classes seriously and thought school was not important, it was just a place…
