For many years I viewed NYU through the eyes of a naïve child. To me, going there was a dream, like becoming an astronaut or a cowboy. However, as a soon to be high school graduate I am able to see NYU, not as
a far-fetched dream, but as the next chapter in the story of my life. I intend to major in economics and finance, and I can think of no place better to continue my education.
For many years going to NYU had become one of my goals. I would look at the struggles my mother was going through, and I would say to myself “I have to make all of this worth it!” A doctor in the USSR; my mother gave up her career to suffer through the pains of immigration just so me and my sister would have the chance for a better life.
By attending NYU, I will accomplish not only my goals, but those of my mother as well. Coming from the oppression of the USSR, my mother had no access to a school as diverse in population and in curriculum as NYU. I want to be surrounded by peers and educators that will not only accept, but expand the reaches of my curiosity. The NYU student body and faculty have created an environment that nurtures the mind as well as the soul.
One day I hope to take my place among the great individuals who started their journey at NYU. If given the opportunity, I will put forth the effort and the work ethic, worthy of the illustrious alumni of this great school. The high school finish line is within view but I am looking ahead, and the only thing I see, is me, wearing that purple NYU gown.
