One might wonder what a fifteen-year-old was doing standing atop a thirty-yard dumpster, chainsaw in hand, and yelling, "Give me more! It can hold more!" During my ninth grade year I saw an opportunity to complete my Eagle Scout project, helping the Lenape Valley Church remove massive piles of downed pine branches fallen during an early March ice storm, creating an eyesore and complaints from the local community. The project I was tackling was Herculean, and I, compared to now, very inexperienced at leading people. But it is Boy Scout’s duty to give back to his community and I had promised that the enormous piles of branches and snow would be gone before Easter.…
During my 2 years involved in the National Honor Society I've come to know and love the four pillars of this organization. These four pillars include: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character. Considering that scholarship is characterized as a commitment to learning, this pillar has taught me many things about the importance of knowledge. Scholarship has made me realize that knowledge is power, diligence and effort if key, and that you should do your absolute best regardless of the outcome. The pillar of service has taught me how to give back to my community. I have learned through the pillar of service that you should reach out and help anyone without compensation or recognition. The pillar of leadership has taught the importance of…
Before school had start most of my old teacher from high school used to tell me that Montclair State University was a really great school at everything. They had graduated from Montclair State University. They all told me great things about this school that I didn’t believed them until I see it with my own eyes. When I had started school, I was amazed with this school I felt like I was home. Most of the things that I like this school have it.…
I have been involved in many activities during high school. These activities include academic organizations, community service, athletic teams, and the professional workforce. I have learned a great deal and have enjoyed participating in them. I also like spending time outdoors, camping, and playing sports for fun.…
One day in seventh grade something wondrous occurred to me. At the end of the school day I was packing my belongings that I would need when I materialized at my house. Though while I was preoccupied, I espied something in my mailbox with my eyes suddenly. In matter of that fact, I decided to walk over to it. I slipped my hand through it and then grasped a letter. In result, my body very slowly went to my seat and I opened it. I couldn’t believe my eyes! I was accepted into the National Junior Honor Society. I was so thrilled that I was going ditzy with my adrenaline rising, at least in a fine way. I started cavorting up and down. My body could not stop jumping, vibrating with joy or talking about my news. So I told all of my friends in my class…
I am honored to be among all of the exemplary students who are being considered for the National Honor Society. This is an organization I have looked forward to being in since the beginning of my high schools career. After researching the National Honor Society I have found that they recognize students who show outstanding qualities of leadership, scholarship, character and service. I am also apart of other organizations, FFA, Interact, Praise Band, and Church Youth Group, that I work very hard in to grow in these qualities.…
My APUSH class was perhaps my favorite class my junior year despite it having been so rigorous and time demanding. I really enjoyed the material and although it was a large amount of work that was required, I still never found myself not finishing everything. It is for that reason that I really value this notebook. I did not fail to miss a single day of doing homework in the class and really managed to fit a whole year's worth of vocabulary in one single notebook. I think that to me it really represents the time and work that I put into getting everything done as a mean of getting myself prepared for the AP exam. I would always just sit with my friends, trying to complete the homework, it gave most of us something in common to complain about…
I am honoured to be among the group of Rosslyn Academy that is applicable to join and be involved in the National Honors Society. I believe that I have not only achieved the academic goals that allow me to be applicable but furthermore, I believe that I also portray the skills of a person that is determined and willing to serve the Rosslyn and Kenyan Communities. I believe that I am able to become a valuable member of the NHS, who is hard-working, constantly ready to contribute new ideas, reliable and able to create useful resolutions with others. My personal traits make me a very approachable and reliable person which helps my peers gain trust for me and respect me because I am positive, open-minded and a quick problem solver. I possess all…
This August my mother and I packed my small sedan to the brim and traveled six hours to see my dream school, Rice University. While my mother was hoping I would realize that the University of Oklahoma was a better choice I was hoping she would see what I see. Passing through the bustling city life of Houston brimming with Fortune 500 companies we pulled onto campus. My mother let out an audible gasp as we passed under a brick archway that led to a campus of beautiful greenery , art installations ,architecture and soft sand bricking. Beginning our tour we were shown the William Marsh Rice sculptor where our guide told of the infamous 180 degree prank.…
I am deeply honored to be among the great students who are being considered for the National Honor Society. Being nominated to be a member of the national honor society shows me that I have achieved my goal to work as hard as I possibly can to stand out among my class mates academically. I feel that this organization does great things, and I’m happy I can play a role in helping the impression that is made. The National Honor Society is known for recognizing students with outstanding grades and commendable characters; I feel that I have both. Last quarter I received a 3.5. I have been a football quarterback for a while, and being a part of the team has taught me a lot about teamwork and dependability. I try to bring what I learn on the field…
Where I wanted to go to college, was a question that loomed over my head for most junior year and the summer before senior year. Deciding where you want to go to college is a major milestone decision, one which I carefully thought over. I knew I wanted to attend a liberal arts college, because I believe the mind is a garden that requires cultivation. I knew I wanted to be in an environment that really pushed me to think conceptually and without censor. When Brandeis University, in Waltham, Massachusetts, came up in my college search, I was immediately intrigued. Brandeis has a long history of promoting social justice and giving back to the community, so I was delighted when I got my acceptance letter in February!…
Throughout the past two years, I’ve received a considerable amount of academic awards and honors. Starting in seventh grade, I received a position on principal’s list for all four quarters in the year. This is one step higher than the honor roll, and is similar to the high honor roll. you have to maintain at least a 94 GPA in order to acquire this award. In addition to this, I also won 1st place in the STEM fair, and I qualified for the regional fair. Unfortunately, I did not receive any awards at the regional level, however it was a honor being able to attend. Eighth grade was similar to seventh. I obtained an average above a 94, and remained on the principal’s list for all four quarters of the school year. In 8th grade, I continued participating…
The intact blue and green wool tartan-covered yearbook in my hands softly rekindles memories of my boarding school friends, faculty and fun. Yes, we girls studied and goofed off like most teenagers; perhaps more intensely because we were cooped up together for four - often fantastic - years. While the title and date of the yearbook are clear on the binding, the nameplate on the cover now only partially reveals my then-name. This little gold plate with fractured black letters makes me think of how my name changed (more than once) over the years and how my long-ago self remains deeply embedded in the person I have become - and will yet…
I have been out of school for a long period of time. I just been sitting…
“Honor! Courtesy! Integrity! Perseverance! Self-control! Courage! Community!” Every Tae Kwon Do class began and ended with the recitation of these tenants. Because of my small stature and extreme shyness, I became a victim of bullying at a very young age. My father enrolled me in a local Tae Kwon Do academy in hopes of instilling courage and self-esteem, but I learned so much more.…
