I would like to share with you an intimate look into my life. It is my hopes that my story will help you in overcoming adversity, and give you strength, even in the darkest of moments.
When I was a child, the age of 6, I was taken from my biological family and placed in the foster-care system. I remember being scared yet curious and all the while confused. I didn’t know that this single act would set in to motion a chain of events and experiences that led me to be where I am today.
While in the foster-care system, I experienced horrific physical, psychological and emotional abuse. I have been beaten, tortured, starved and deprived of love and compassion. I was made to feel unimportant and unworthy like a lowly …show more content…
My sobbing abruptly stopped-my foster brother had left the door slightly open upon leaving for school.
On the next upward motion of the push-up, my little body, all 90 lbs of me suddenly overpowered this 300 lb woman. I bolted, with all my might and sped from underneath her colossal foot and I ran straight out that door 3 miles all the way to school.
I recall hearing her yelling after me; I turned quickly to murmur a curse word and gave her the finger! There was spirit in me left; there was fight in me. Despite all I had gone through; all the years of abuse and neglect, my spirit was as full and vibrant as it was the day I was born.
We don’t always have a choice in the way things are going in the world (particularly when we are children), though we always have a choice in how we react. We can choose to be defeated and give in. Though in truth, it is not in any of us to do so.
We are miracles of creation; every one of us. We are all unique and spectacular in our own rights. Adversity is merely a word. The truth of it is- adversity is God’s way of pushing us towards our greatest potential. Overcoming adversity means never giving up-no matter what. If we continue to strive; if we continue to move forward-success will always be our just
