Personal Narrative: Playing On The Baseball Field
I had just finished my freshman year of high school, now playing on my school’s summer baseball team. It was a perfect summer night on the baseball field; playing against one of the teams I disliked the most, Ava. It was always a close game playing them; they had good players who always played hard. Going into the 7th inning the game was tied, three to three. I came up to the plate wanting to help my team win the game. As the pitch came in my eyes lit up, it was a fastball right down the middle. I swung and hit the ball into left field. As I was running to first I looked up to find where I had hit the ball. I watched it bounce off the top of the fence and come back into the ballpark. As I came around first base my coach was yelling at me to go to second, but as I stepped on the bag I felt a sharp pain in my left foot. I kept running but not very fast. I made it to second, and when I got there my foot hurt incredibly bad. The next batter was able to get a base hit, and I scored from second, even though my foot was killing me. After the game, I told my coaches what had …show more content…
Baseball was all I cared about at the time. After sitting on the bench all fall I realized how blessed I was to be able to do what I love. Until then I took for granted all of the little things in life. Being on crutches for 11 weeks made me appreciate the ability to be able to simply walk, let alone play a sport. This experience was the most humbling thing I had ever been through. I feel like it brought me closer to God, thanking him for every moment I get to spend on a baseball field. To this day when I step on the field I thank the Lord for letting me play. This incident also showed me how fast He could take baseball away from me, or anything from me. From those few weeks forward I do my best not to take for granted what the Lord has given me, making the most if every opportunity I

Softball isn’t just a sport, it’s a passion. Last year, in a softball game, I tripped and cause us to get all three outs. My team, as well as my coach, was very upset. As a consequence, I sat the next two innings out. Sitting alone and thinking about how my mistake could cost us the game, I felt as though I needed to prove to my team that I didn’t mean to and that I could help get the game back. I finally convinced my coach to let me back in the game. An inning had gone by I still hadn’t proven myself. I was getting nervous. Bottom of the ninth, my chance came. Playing shortstop, a ground ball was headed straight for me. I caught it, and threw it to first. First then through it to third, and I tagged the runner coming from second base. A triple play! We were three points ahead and had won the game. I had such a feeling of self-accomplishment and pride. I had proven to the team that I was a…

One sport that got my eye was baseball my senior. I love the feeling of having to be out on the on the field saying nothing but chewing gum or spitting out sunflower seeds. Having to make quick actions that can win or prevent the enemy from scoring. Having to go up to bat I always had a game face. If I took a swing and would miss I would close my eyes in failure to ashamed to look at my coach and team. However if I had got a base hit I would run not looking anywhere but to the base…

I continued inspiring every one of the players and I continued saying, "We are not going to lose this game." I think they heard me exceptionally well in light of the fact that our bats were really hitting. We went ahead to score three runs that inning and we led the game. Unfortunately for us, they got an opportunity to bat. I was still in the game and I had tossed around one hundred and thirty pitches which is a considerable measure for a pitcher. Generally coaches take out their pitchers when they hit the one hundred pitch check. I was prepared to leave the hole and onto the field when Coach Clark snatched me and stated, "I'm sorry yet I need to remove you from the game. You have pitched a great number of pitches and I don't need you to get hurt." I took a look at him with passion and stated, "This game is there for me to complete regardless. If I give up one hit or one ball, you can remove me from the game. I won't let you down!" He took a look at my teammates for approval and they knew I needed this with my entire existence so they gave me the "alright" to pitch and coach let me backpedal on the field. By then, I couldn't feel my shoulder however he didn't realize that. When I got onto the hill, my body got an adrenaline rush and that blended with outrage. I looked each player's eyes and all I saw was fear. From the main pitch on, I felt nothing in my shoulder except for that didn't…

From the chalked-up dirt to the fresh cut grass, a softball field is always a place I love to be. This is my 10th grade year and I still enjoy it just as much as the first day I started. Even though I play other sports, softball has still remained my favorite. My uniform colors are gold and black representing the Rams. I was playing baseball in the spring of my junior year at Athens High School. It was a big game for the team. If we won, we still could make the playoffs, but if we lost, our playoffs hopes crushed. I was in the starting lineup playing first base and batting sixth. It was the third inning and it was still a tied game at zero. Muscle Shoals had a runner on second base with one out. The Muscle Shoals batter hit the ball to third base; our third baseman fielded the ball and threw the ball towards me at first. The ball was thrown off line up into the baseline. I stretch trying to keep my foot on the bag and make the catch. As soon as I caught the ball the hitter collided with me. The collision sent the ball and my glove soaring into right field.…

My mother decided I should see a specialist in Nashville after not being satisfied with our local doctor’s diagnosis. When I arrived at the doctor's office, I explained to the doctor in detail what had happened and he immediately recommended an MRI. Vividly I remember laying down as they pushed me into the colossal machine. It was miserable lying completely still like a statue for an hour while hearing the loud clicking noise of the massive machine. A week later, I went back to the doctor to get the results. He informed me that I had a tear in my labrum and that it would require surgery. But it wasn't the worst news. He then explained that he did not recommend that I play football ever again. When I heard those words, it was like the entire world stopped for a few seconds. I was heartbroken. Not being able to play the sport I fell in love with when I was just 7 years old made me feel dejected. I didn't know how I could live without playing football, but I had to accept my new reality. I had the surgery at the beginning of my sophomore year. After months of physical therapy, I was ready to find a new sport to play. Shortly thereafter, a friend introduced me to the game of…

Laying on the ground face down with a strange immense pain in my knee, I knew in the back of my mind that something was wrong. I tossed off my helmet and looked up into the stands and saw the faces my parents and the fans who had more than a concerned look on their faces. My trainer soon rushed over to my side and started to work with me as I tried moving my knee, which was extremely hard to do. Eventually my trainer and a fellow teammate helped me off the field. I dreaded the worst as each step I took grew in pain and difficulty.…

One of my most memorable moments was at the World Series when I was eleven years old and played on the Texas Rattlers. The July heat in South Haven, Mississippi was unbearable. It was the semi-final game in the World Series. Sweat dripped off my nose as we ran into the dugout for our last at bat. “We need some runs!” The coaches yelled as they spit out sunflower seeds. We were down by one run in the last inning. I was the second batter up as my hands shook the aluminum bat back and forth in the on-deck circle. I was ready for this moment; this is why I stayed late after every practice; this is why I was the captain of the team; this was my moment. In the next few seconds, I had the chance to show my strength as a hitter and my ability to be a leader under pressure. I stepped up to the batters box and the coach screamed, “Gavin, hit like you always do. Let’s go number 7!” That made me even more nervous, but now I was more determined than ever to hit that ball. I knew that I had to find a way to lead my team to victory. All of my hard work and dedication should payoff now! The pitcher went through his motions and threw a fastball right down the middle. It felt like the pitch was coming at me in slow motion, just like in the movies. I waited and waited for the pitch to come and when it did I swung the bat with all my might. The baseball flew off my bat like a shooting star over the left field fence. I hit…

The day I got injured was one of the worst days of my life. After practice a pitcher wanted to throw a bullpen and none of the other catchers wanted to catch him, so I said I would. On the last pitch of the bullpen I twisted my knee on the turf and felt a sharp pain and a horrible sounding pop. It sounded life two bones crunching against each other. A couple more days of practice went by and I couldn’t bare the pain any longer. Our trainer set me up with a MRI at our hospital on campus, and my insurance company wouldn’t cover me since I was “out of state”. So that night I drove home to get my MRI.…
