Personal Narrative: Sacrifice In Education
“This I Believe” Sacrifice is giving up something valued for the sake of something or someone else. Everyday around the world sacrifices are made for another human beings, education, idea, and beliefs. Sacrifice is not something you gain but something you surrender. For example, I’m very passionate about sports; I’ve been playing them since the age of 5. My junior year of high school I was forced to sacrifice my passion for my education. I was at risk of not graduation high school unless I took adult school to make up 30 credits. Has much as I cried and tried to come up with alterative ideas that did not include sacrificing what I loved, I still had to keep in mind that my education is far more important than any after school sports activities.

During my semester in Nature of the Learner I was placed in a second grade classroom at Johnson Street Elementary. This was a global studies school. I was very hesitant on my first day of going into the school. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but I was excited to be in the classroom because second grade was my favorite age group to work with. During this placement I assumed that I would help out the kids within the class but I didn’t. My teacher had me help out this one little guy every week. I was able to help him with his writing and math. I enjoyed doing that but that left me with about five minutes in the actual classroom to observe. During this short amount of time I would walk around the room and ask the children if they needed help.…

Failure is the state of not meeting an objective, and is normal for people to face throughout there life. I can speak on experience an event that had happened this past summer. After finals when my school had sent out final report cards, it was sad to see that my final average in my US History course did not meet the requirements to continue to the next grade. From there I had two options: to go to summer school and pass so that I may continue school at the academy or transfer schools and repeat my junior year of high school. With these two options I decided that it would be best to go to summer school and put all I had into the class so that I may pass. Sadly this failure had affected my life more than expected. The night grew dark, cold, and lonesome. I took a hot shower and prayed for my health. Midafternoon the next day, I heard a bold knock on my door. “Come in,” I uttered exuberantly. A tall, husky man wearing a white lab coat entered my room, followed by a gust of cold air. My eyes instantly spotted “Surgeon” on his name tag. I uneasily anticipated the doctors’ decision that I was going to need to have surgery.…

The biggest commitment that I have ever made so far was when I was in the high school, that commitment was challenging and difficult for me. It was graduating from the high school a high grades. Why it was challenging and difficult was because before that commitment I was the laziest person in my family, I didn't care about school and believed that getting high grades in school wouldn't change my life as long as I moved from level to the next but my intuition was wrong. My father tried to change my perspective, he had done many thing to me by enrolling me with a tutor, talking to my instructors in school to help me. However, all that things didn't work. My education will never be complete. This knowledge affords me the ability to grow each and every day. It teaches me to question the world and to learn from these questions. I learn through different lenses and circumstances I experience each day. At seventeen, I am nowhere near complete. I am young. I am flawed. I am naïve. What I have learned has led me down different paths in order to achieve different milestones on my own journey. I am strong. I am creative. I am poised...but most importantly I am learning. My education has allowed me to learn about myself, about others, and about the world. I am evolving through the educational process and through the effort of acquiring knowledge. I have no idea what I will learn tomorrow --some days…
