There is a lot of pain and struggle in us that we sometimes find hard to deal with. I was a child when I first learned what cancer meant and what it would do to my beautiful, loving and caring grandmother. I was still too young to understand fully, but I knew more or less that she would be leaving us too soon in her time. I saw her struggle with the changes the sickness had done to her body. She was weak and always tired. It hurt me so much to see her in pain and she always tried her very best to not show that she was hurting around us. She would smile and always have words of wisdom. Growing up she was the only person I thought I could tell my secrets to, my grandmother was my best friend. Before she passed I wanted to hold her, be with her and just…
My wife passed away six months ago, on June 28, 2011, after she had struggled with cancer for 17 months. For 17 months, we went through cycles of promises of hope for her recovery, followed by announcements that another tumor had been found and they would try a different chemotherapy. Then hope! Then another tumor, a different type of treatment, more surgery, a different hospital, and different promises. Over and over. Yet none of those promises came true.…
I am sure each and every one of you here today has something special to share about how my grandpa touched your life. I have a story I would like to share. Right after Grandpa got sick and was told he had…
Other personal experiences include two of my siblings, both served in Iraq, who were exposed to enemy gunfire while serving. I lost my grandmother eight years ago, who was my rock in every possible way. My grandmother was diagnosed with Leukemia, which she kept from everyone in my family until two months before her death. I believe family stress developed due to her sudden death. Aside from family stress, I personally struggled with my grandmother’s death, who reflected as a woman with great strength and lots of wisdom; who also taught me values, honesty, and community. Further, five years later, in the year 2009, I lost another family member to gunshot violence, who was shot in the head and died instantly; this family member was also…
Introduction: Gel electrophoresis is an important molecular biology tool: it enables us to study DNA. It can be used to determine the sequence of nitrogen bases, the size of an insertion or deletion, or the presence of a point mutation; it can also be used to distinguish between variable sized alleles at a single locus and to assess the quality and quantity of DNA present in a sample. Gel electrophoresis is a method of separating chemical compounds and molecules by their size and charge. The substances being separated are placed in wells in an agarose gel and subjected to an electrical field. Negatively charged molecules move towards the positive anode, and positively charged molecules move towards the negative anode. Longer or larger molecules have difficulty traveling through the gel; they become entangled in the gel matrix. Shorter or smaller molecules migrate through the agarose matrix faster and thus travel farther in a given time period. Similar sized fragments travel at relatively the same speed and form a tight "band" when stained.…
Today was a Monday like the passed Clinical day. I wake up feeling anxious and with some fear of having to do something new, but that is how we learn to do everything so although I am a little scare, I am the first in line to do wathever we have to do to be a great profesional nurse in the future. My patient was a man of 68 years old who ws very good with me. any given person knows at least one person, who has suffered from cancer. Talking about cancer…
Cancer was something that happened in my life that I did not see coming. No of course it was not me who was hit with the big C. This happened to my sister when I was in the 6th grade. This took a major change to me and it changed who I am today. When this happened it took control of my sister. My sister has never had a fair life for her. When ever she would get passed a major thing in her life something always comes around to bite her. This thing that started it all happened when she was 3-4 years old and my sister needed to have brain surgery because she was constantly having seizures because of a brain condition called cortical dysplasia. This is a malformation in the development of the brain. Basically what this means is she had spots that…
Petersburg, West Virginia is a small town in the eastern panhandle with one stoplight and where everybody has some type of connection or recognition to everybody. I travel to this area at least three times annually for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and Independence Day. Petersburg is not a vacation spot my parents, sister, and I go to on the holidays, it is where my grandparents reside in their beautiful two story brick home they built. I have always enjoyed visiting my grandparents and the time spent together is special. The time spent with my grandma has been particularly special this past year. In September of 2014, my grandma, who I call Grammy, was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer after having a biopsy. Her journey so far has taught me to cherish the memories made and time spent with family.…
Following my grandfather's death, my dad's family had a really rough time, moving around the country and being dirt poor to the point where malnutrition became a health concern in his childhood. There were days when he would be out for a walk and he'd suddenly collapse on the spot due to intense stomach pains. People would pass by, but no one ever helped him up. After lying on the ground for God knows how long, he would rush back to the house to poop, only to find his efforts futile. He couldn't afford a doctor and his mother was too busy trying to make ends meet. On top of that, he had two older sisters and, later, two older step-sisters.…

Colon cancer is one type of many type of cancers . it is defined as a cancer that happens or occurs in the large intestine or the rectum ( the end of colon).
