My experience in Junior High started the summer right after sixth grade, before seventh grade even started. That summer I was part of the Hoosier Hills Pact program, the program was made to help students with the transition between elementary and Junior High. In the program I spent every wednesday at the school with Mrs. Harrison, Mrs. Long, and some other students whose names I can’t remember. Every once and awhile we would take a field trip somewhere to get to know each other better and other times we would be talking about what we would need to know for future years. When we had free time we would sometimes go down to the lower gymnasium and play games using a parachute and just have fun. The Pact program really made …show more content…
the transition between grades and buildings so much easier and hopefully will continue helping others such as myself in the future.
Seventh Grade
The first day of of seventh grade and my first year of Junior High was easier they I could of imagined and the teachers were truly great at their jobs. For the first semester I took the normal year round classes of social studies, english, physical education, math, and science along with the relationships/fashion and computer apps classes. For social studies my teacher was Mrs. Tool, she was always enthusiastic about teaching her class and good at it too though she could get scary when she was mad. Mrs. Tool taught us about different religions, what was going on in the world, and what the first civilizations were like. My teacher in english was Mrs. Brown, she was always nice to her classes but most of the students were never respectful towards her. She taught us about grammar, root words, and story configuration. Mrs. Bosley was our math teacher she always fair and taught the best she could even when the students were rude. In her class she let us spin a wheel for a prize whenever we got a bellringer question
correct. In science I was always nervous, the teacher Mrs. Bough’s teaching style was hard for me to follow but everyone else said she was a nice teacher and her class easy. She was a good teacher and her classes could be fun but I couldn’t help but get confused at times. Mrs. Hudelson the P.E teacher was always fair in her classes and as helpful as she could be. Computer apps was a difficult class for me, the teacher Mr. Helmick didn’t get in front of the class much, but he really didn’t need to, in his class almost every day we would watch CNN student news. The class was mainly to teach students the essential parts of using computers and computer programs the only thing that held me back was all the math involved. Relationships/Fashion taught by Mrs. Manship was a very useful class and taught me about social relationships, the different names of certain relationships, and all about textiles.
I had all these classes except P.E. which was exchanged with health and the one-semester classes for second semester along with the one semester classes of nutrition/personal finance, and RTI. Nutrition/personal finance was taught by, Mrs. Springer, in her class I started learning to cook, learned to identify all kinds of nutrients, eating habits around the globe, and what our foods are made up of. RTI was taught by Mrs. Stephens it was mostly a class used to catch up in my other classes with the help of the teacher. But we also got assignments in Mrs. Stephens class but it was mostly just stories that I needed to write. Seventh grade had some significant events in it to, I learned badminton in P.E, on my birthday the back porch caught on fire at midnight before the day had even started though there was minimal damage and no harm it was still quite a scare. A few days beforehand in the same week there had been a flash flood in the creek and the bridge was completely ripped out concrete and all demolished. The worst part of that year and that week specifically happened on March sixth two days after my birthday my puppy Delta died from unknown causes in the snow,
Summer before Eighth Grade
The summer before eighth grade was pretty normal, I did nothing but read for almost the whole summer. My mom would take me too Melton Public library in French Lick almost every week to get new books. I ended up becoming a part of the summer reading program for teenagers very quickly with all the time I was spending in the library. By the end of the summer I had read all the continuations of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians book series, the Maximum Ride book series, the Inheritance Cycle book series, the start of The Unwanteds book series, and the beginning of the Abarat book series. I also read the solo books Beware the Wild, Pathfinder, and Confessions of a Murder Suspect. Adding up to total of about twenty-six books and those are just the ones I got from the library there were many other books I read from home as well.
Eighth Grade
After completing seventh grade, eighth grade was pretty easy of course we learned all kinds of new and important facts but we already knew what kind of challenges to expect and that made all the difference. That year I had all the fundamental classes of English, pre-algebra, social studies, science and P.E. Just like the year before all of them were year round. My one semester class for the first part of the year was art one and my other elective class was intro to agriculture which was a year round class. English was taught by Mrs. Noble, who was always helpful, kind, and an amazing teacher. Pre-algebra was taught by Mrs. Chase, a one of a kind teacher who was sympathetic towards her students and enthusiastic about her job. Mr. Reckelhoff, the social studies teacher, taught to the best of his abilities no matter how the immature class acted. His classes were fun no matter how much others complained. The science teacher was Mrs. Stroud, in her classes I had fun while learning more than I had in many years past. Intro. to agriculture was taught by Mr. Woolston, in his class we mostly just talked but we did manage to get through parliamentary procedure and had a great time practicing it in class once I got over my bashfulness. Mr. Jones, the art one teacher, was amazing when it came to his subject, every art style I saw him do was professional in my eyes and his knowledge of art and it’s history was seemingly flawless. His class improved my art immensely and I regret never having the courage to thank him for his teachings along with all my other teachers. Physical education was the same as the year before with Mrs. Hudelson, though the class was a little less fun I improved and that's what matters.
Second semester was at the most the same in the classes as the first semester. P.E was switched out with health and art one was switched with intro. to coding and gaming. Health as with P.E was a repeat of seventh grade everything was the same with very little variation between the years. In intro. to agriculture we had fun learning boaters, trappers, and hunters safety through DNR courses. Intro. to coding and gaming was taught by Mr. Goodman, it was the first time the class had been taught at Paoli schools. In the class we learned the basics of coding and the fundamentals of the HTML, CSS, and JavaScript coding languages.
The most significant events of eighth grade year for me were, learning archery in P.E, the English field trip to the play “And Then They Came For Me” at StageOne family theatre, learning subjects I may never get a chance to study again, and the agriculture field trip to the 2016 International Livestock Exposition even though we didn’t actually do anything that day.
