It broke my heart at the time and it is still a sore spot for me, but it gave so much perspective on the issues that plague this country and how we have the ultimate burden of trying to help others to once again become upstanding citizens. I work in across the street from Union Square park in New York City, which is known for having a very large homeless presence. It may seem very unlikely, but every day I go to work, it seems like there are more and more homeless people in the area. This says to me that things are getting worse with no end in sight. When I research the homeless problem in New York, I find the usual non-profit organizations that are trying their best to make a difference, but what I don’t see is any effort on the part of the government to stop the homeless problem. It’s as if the city councils and state governments have turned a blind eye to homelessness and they’re just hoping that it goes away on its own. I will say though that stopping the endless cycle of homelessness is not only for us to do. Those who may have put themselves into these situations where they are living on the street must also seek to pull themselves
