Personal Narrative: The Football Team
Station Camp was five yards from the end zone when our defense flattened the running back, sending the football to the hands of the tackler. Our defense scored on that play to win the game 26-20 in overtime. The tumultuous crowd became so loud, we couldn't hear each other on the field; but truthfully, we did not need to speak. Who we were spoke so loudly that we did not need to hear each other. Numerous predictions claimed we should have lost that game alongside our already fearful fans. After losing nineteen talented starters in the class above us, an immense void was left to fill by few seniors. So why did we keep playing? The answer is that the visceral integrity ingrained within us would never allow us cease believing in ourselves and let adversity control the outcome of the game.
The football team was always my second family. Being one of four players chosen to play varsity before junior year, I was able to sit in on varsity meetings. During one of those meetings, my coach and mentor explained, "Sometimes, there

On and off the field, I knew my role was to lead our class and team. From the weight room to the track, and even in the classroom, I lead by example and empowered others on a journey unique to each person. Teaching freshman, and staying after practice to help those that needed it, helped me realize the uttermost selfish thing we can do is believe our actions only affect ourselves. Everything we do affects someone else for the better or for the worse. There is no other environment that lends the same leadership opportunities and experiences than that of a football. I can truly say that without playing football in high school, I would not have grown into the person I am today, nor possess the same intellectual characteristics. I am grateful for all experiences, whether seemingly beneficial or adverse, as it is the conglomerate of experiences that makes us who we

The October air was brisk, the sun had set, and the moon had risen. The lights and speakers could be seen and heard from miles away. The night had taken over everywhere except inside the Varsity Stadium where time seemed to stand still on friday nights with a thousand or two fans of all ages in attendance. This is Michigan high school football. Every year there is one game that has more fans and more energy, the homecoming game. Playing in this game is like a movie or video game. You have the spotlight on you. As a sophomore in high school, this was my first time playing in a homecoming game. This game changed will have an everlasting effect. There are over seven billion people on this Earth, so what is it that makes me so different? I wear Nike, I drive a car, I play video games, I have chores, and could be considered a pretty normal person. I love, I laugh, I get angry, and I have emotions just like every other human being. The one thing I heavily identify with is football. For as long as I can remember I’ve played ball, and made some great friends along the way. The picture in the top left is a great representation of this. Football has taught me lessons of leadership, perseverance, toughness, how to deal with the highest of highs, and the lowest of lows. (Bottom left: aftermath of beating Staley) Above all else, the best thing it has taught me was loyalty. Not only loyalty to a cause, but loyalty to my brothers, and ultimately my family. Football has created a foundation for my character, and without it I am certain I would not be the same person I am today.…

It all started at ninth street with some friends of mine John and I started recruiting some people to come play football with us. I honestly didn’t know I had a pretty decent arm. I originally was going to start practicing to play wide receiver instead of quarterback. At the time Odell Beckham Jr. ( wide receiver for the New York Giants ) was extremely explosive and dynamic on offense. Seeing him blow up on offense made me want to try out for wide receiver. But somehow John convinced me to play quarterback.…

“Swish” as the ball goes through the net. The crowd went wild in the stands as Adam shot the ball. Adam is a tall and brown curly haired boy, with wide hands up to eight inches long. There were many reasons why the Varsity team began losing to the JV team. It initially started when Coach P. finalized the teams, and soon raced against one another. In their first exhibition run, as expected the Varsity prevailed, but there were a few members of the varsity team that were not satisfied with the win. Rather than brainstorming ways they could do to improve as team, they were very egotistic in their ways, and because they were the best out of the bunch, they should have won by a larger margin. Also, the JV had this mind set of having nothing to lose; this alone gave the team the drive to be better as a team which essentially made them faster and more in sync, unlike the Varsity team. While the JV team is helping one another out, the Varsity continued pointing fingers at one another claiming that it was another teammates fault for being in the position they are in, and saying things along the line of “I’ve been carrying this boat alone.” Not only does that make you arrogant, it makes the rest of team feel as if their efforts are not good enough help the team reach their goals. Rather than conforming to one another’s faults, like the JV was doing, Varsity was doing the complete opposite out of frustration.…

It was a very pleasant evening and I was at soccer practice at the South Barrington turf soccer fields. I loved to play soccer and I took it really seriously. Everything I do I go all out. There was no such thing as a second gear for me, I would always go 110 percent. When I was on the field, I could be looked at as a violent person and I would constantly get carded for rough play. During some of our matches I struck so much fear in my opponents they were afraid to guard me.…
