can be very good with a rifle and covering fire and also well trained in tactical diving, Rapske, Explosives expert, Probably the most intelligent of our little posse, I can't count how many times his greatness has saved us from losing a member to a planted I.E.D or even our lack of knowledge of our environment, and me, the marksmen of the group. I don't mean to brag, but one week I hit one of the members of CSAT about a kilometer away. I could use a sniper rifle well, all together our little group is one of the most well functioning squads on Tanoa. None of the members from alpha squad, including me have been home for 5 months, but if everything goes according to plan we would all be home by next month. We packed up the last of NATO equipment because CSAT forces have backed down and haven't made any attacks on TAF in 2 months, so all of NATO forces were to be decommissioned.
Then the explosion happened, it was as blinding as the centre of the sun, the noise was like 1 thousand race horses trotting in your ear, it was almost 7 kilometers away from alpha squads outpost but you could see it as clear as day. Nobody knew what it could be, maybe an oil pump malfunction?, a crash of a big vehicle? No, we all knew what it was. That night all radios went silent because it was a communications centre that got destroyed, but we waited all awake for an attack. Surely they would attack at this time and the guess I made was correct about 3 hours after the explosion at the Comms centre we heard multiple whooshing of jet engines and the faint helicopter blades chopping at the air we tried to tell ourselves it was NATO forces to make ourselves feel better, but that dream got crushed when they started attacking the major outposts on the island such as Command Post Bravo and even some light fire on our outpost, Outpost Alpha. Huyder was always the most calm out of all of us but the night the explosion happened, he was slowly shutting down, knowing the invasion had happened, all of us were.
CSAT took the island in almost 32 hours after the first attack with communication shut off from the mainland we could not get reinforcements and the TAF forces got completely overrun and all of the smaller communication centres were overrun and the closest centre to us was about 1.5 kilometers but we needed way more men to take over a compound of that size. In our favor we started getting lone marines showing up at our outpost one by one they showed up until we almost had 12 people, which with a bit of luck would be enough to take over that communication compound. With no vehicles and limited ammunition we needed to make every shot count, but with only 4 specialized navy seals and 8 marines that would be a little bit difficult. So we walked that small distance that almost felt like 10 kilometers because of the constant passing of enemy helicopters and jets that were scouting for stragglers that escaped the enemy attack, like us. When we arrived at the outpost we finally realized there was no way we could take this over with 12 people and no casualties so we held a vote, whoever wanted to leave and have more of a chance surviving they could walk away or we could all try and take it over anyway to save the rest of the captured marines on the island. We had 2 marines leave that seemed like friends that were going to go spend the last couple of days of their life in the tropical forests of Tanoa. The 10 of us were all determined to do this, the adrenaline making us do that insane stunt because no one in the right mind would. However we had to, for everyone on the island that was captured and so we could have a chance at returning to our families other than being CSAT hostages. So we planned, it was the most unsafe little kamikaze and actually kind of a “hope” feeling to it, the plan was all based off teamwork and watching out for each other. The rest is hard to remember, but we did lose about 4 of those marines that bravely volunteered to save everyone on the island and risk their lives for them which in the end killed them, unfortunately. With 2 marines and 4 Navy Seals in the outpost we blocked off all entrances we managed to scavenge one of the old foreign radios and contact the Forward operation base offshore of Tanoa and get them to bring reinforcements and save us.
So we called in reinforcements and we were all happy right? No, we were surrounded by multiple CSAT brigades ordered to kill us on sight and when they made the final attack on the little outpost we surrendered and dropped our weapons, they all looked dumbfounded and totally confused, so they tied us up and knocked us out, I thought we were dead but I almost felt relieved that we called in reinforcements and saved so many but lost our own. No One would remember us or even know what we did and that was ok.
I woke up alone in a interrogation room that I easily identified as being right in the centre of the Command Post Bravo right in the centre of the island.
But there was tons of combat, gunshots, explosions, and lights flickering as every explosion went off and I sat there restrained in a chair alone with nothing but worry for my comrades that I last seen when we surrendered. After a couple of hours it was completely silent and everything was quiet, and the door swung open with 4 marines and a commanding officer from NATO forces, but there uniforms were American mainland uniforms so it was the end. They got to the island so quickly, but I was informed that 2 of my alpha squad members returned to outpost alpha and saved almost 20 marines that held sanctuary there. However the 2 marines that helped us were executed by CSAT forces before NATO reinforcements got to my position. I know that the attempt at taking over that compound was next to impossible, but I still feel dread for all the Marines we lost in that final effort. It is currently 2038 and I still I am alive with my family, but still in denial about all of the marines we lost, all of alpha squad's members got returned to their homes as well and now live with their families. Although I will never forget the ones who weren't fortunate enough to return home and I will always honour them more than
anyone.
