Personal Narrative: The Game Of Chess
In chess, the objective of the game is to defeat the enemy forces while protecting your king piece. The other pieces have to sacrifice their lives to protect the king. My grandfather was a philosopher; he taught me that life is like a game of chess. We are born as kings, protected by the pawns, the knights, the bishops, the rooks, and the queen. The other game pieces represent the society who will protect the newborn king so that they will prosper when they grow old. As we grow we must pass down our throne to the next generation; to the new king who we must protect. During his time period, chess was the most flourishing game in town and he would recite his beliefs to all his challengers. His challengers were marvelled by his skills and he remained undefeated until death. “Checkmate, I win.” “One day, I will beat you Dad!” he swore. I was …show more content…
He did not eat or sleep for days. She died in a hit and run incident. One day, I challenged him in a game of chess as an emotional solace. He hesitated, at first, whimpering as he moved the pawn pieces. I asked him, “What if I told you, if you defeat the current king, me, you can become the next one. As king, you can have all the happiness you want until you are defeated by another challenger.” After that day, I never went a day without playing a game of chess. He would storm into my room, place the shabby chess board that my grandfather passed down to me onto the wooden table next to my bed, and wait for me to make the first move. Some days he would crash into my bedside drawer, knock down my medicine bottles and drop the chess board. Today, it is different. “Dad, let’s play again,” he asked. “That’s odd, you usually would run out of the room disappointed by now.” “I overheard the nurses and-” “Say no more, let’s play,” I answered. Every game, I would move the E2 pawn two spaces forward and he would counter by moving his E7 pawn in front my

No one told me about this year-end tournament when I purchased the Frequent Player Card. Perhaps if they sent out a little notice via Facebook or an e-mail reminder, it would draw more players. And, your suggestion to have a ladies division might encourage more to sign up. There is no way we can compete with single-digit men players...if not for a prize, for bragging rights.…

In “202 Checkmate,” Rion Amilcar Scott explores the notion of the real life of a father and daughter through a board game. For example, the father told his daughter the white chess pieces go first so they have an advantage of the black pieces. He uses to play chess with his father before he passed away and now he is playing with his daughter. Chess is an intensive thinking game so the game teaches patience, strategy, and knowledge. The game is over when the king is down. Moreover, the chess board represents life and the chess pieces symbolize the different levels of power different people have. The movement of the chess pieces represents actions and certain actions have consequences. Making a move without a strategy can easily result in the…

In chapter 12, the key event to me was when Claudia and Finn talked to each other through the keys. I felt many emotions when reading their interaction one of them being happy. I felt happy when they talked to each other because it was a turning point in the story in my opinion. I also felt surprised because at first, I thought by having two keys, there would be a lock that would need both keys to hear and speak to each other. I also felt confused by the way they conversed; How could they now hear each other but not before. I think by having one key being touched, the other key can hear because on page 153 Claudia says she breathed and rubbed on the key making it warm and on page 154 Finn says when he touches the key it's warm.I like the way the author wrote the scene from both perspectives, it gave us the readers a clearer understanding of how both Finn and Claudia felt. I also like how the author described the way both keys affect each other and have a "key" connection.…

`Middle of the day and were almost at Super Bowl 51. There was so much traffic in the parking lot. We weren't even moving for about 10 minutes. We got there 3 hours early! Finally we got in and waited even longer. We had to go to another station to get our tickets checked because there was about over 20,000 people. “ I can’t wait any longer,” said my dad. After about 30 minutes we finally got to our seat and rested. We got up and we got some pizza and drinks. We waited 2 hours for the game to start. We sang the national anthem and then they setted up for the kick off. The Falcons kicked off to the Patriots. Unfortunately, New England was forced into a three-and-out after LeGarrette Blount was stopped on 3rd-and-short. The Falcons were able…

In seventh grade I wanted to tryout for volleyball. I was very nervous because I had never played it before. I was super happy when I found out all my friends and I made the team. We had a lot of practices in December to get ready for games in January. I was really nervous for our first game. Our first game was supposed to be right after christmas break ended, but we had a snow day so it was cancelled. I wished it hadn’t been so I could just get it over with, but i was gonna have to wait. We were scheduled for another game later that week. I woke up with a phone ringing and an answering machine saying that school was cancelled due to boiler issues. I sat in bed thinking I had once again gotten lucky and we had no game, I was wrong. We were…
