Personal Narrative: The Game Of Soccer
I was so nervous about starting soccer for my very first time ever. I knew that I knew nothing about soccer. But I decided that I was still going to try out for it anyway. Peyton Hudson really encouraged me to join because she was playing and she said it was a lot of fun, plus they needed players. I was just so excited to start playing.
Everything was so cool at first because I didn't realize anything that was happening because my excitement got the best of me. Then I stopped getting excited to go to practices. The old Coach did not even pay any attention to the new players. He did not try to teach them the game of soccer or even how to play. It just seemed he only payed all his attention to his returning players. Which, absolutely did not make any sense to me at all. Mainly, because since the fact that they already knew how to play. They had been playing since they were really young children. I felt like It would just make a lot more sense to work with the new players. So they can know how to play and understand the actually game of soccer more. But, since he did not see it that way, he did not do that at all. So when he did put me in the last 5 minutes of what it seemed to be every blue moon, that's not exact. But, he would get upset and pull me right back out of the game because I was not doing anything right. This is because he did not teach me the right thing to do. It even happened at practices, there was very many days when he just

I was just sitting there, then all of a sudden Coach Nosse called my name to come up on stage. My eye started to water, next thing I knew I was crying.I was just so embarrassed mainly because I didn't even bother really dressing up because I did not plan on getting up and going on the stage in front of not only my sport but all the other sports around that season. That is only because I figured I would not get any awards at all. But to my surprise, I was awarded with a trophy for “Most

When the first game came I was extremely happy yet nervous also. We ended up winning the game by the score of three runs to two although I did not get to bat at all and was put in only for two innings of defense. I was disappointed that I did not get to play much but I was happy with the win. Our second game was the next day and I hoped to get more playing time then. When that day came it turned out that we were playing an extremely skilled team. We were losing three to one in the last inning and I still hadn’t played at all the whole game. One of my friends hit a double and then another one of my teammates hit a single to knock him in to score. The score was now three to two and we had a chance to come back. My coach then decided that we needed someone faster on the bases so he called for a…

The head coach had left a few weeks earlier on a vacation, but he was due to be back two days before and ready to begin coaching again on this day. He did not show up on this day though, leaving me hoping at least one of the more experienced coaches would show up. By the time for the league to start, one other coach showed up, but after only 10 minutes left, leaving me, having little to no experience, to coach around…

When I was ten years old I tried out for my local travel soccer team. I did not expect to make it, but by some stroke of luck I did. I started playing and it was not what I was expecting. In the past I averaged a hat trick every game, but travel soccer was a lot different. I started playing defense, but that might be an overstatement, because I did not get a whole lot of minutes. I knew that if I wanted to play more I was going to have to put in more work outside of practice. I started practicing everyday switching from running, to foot skills, to agility training. I probably spent more time complaining about it and there were a few time that my parents had to push me to practice, but I knew that I had to put in the work.…

Everyone on my team, including me, were 120% focused during our warm-up because we were versing a good Illinois team and their team’s name was Euro SC Select. This team had a lot of skilled and fast players that were definitely bigger than us. Most of the players on this team were very aggressive and physical too, so my team had to be very strong. There weren’t many times when my soccer games were really intense, but this game was very intense to watch and the parents were getting so nervous and anxious. It was a really close game and we ended up tying the game 0-0. Because of the tie in the championship game, we had to go into penalty kicks. My coach got to choose 5 people to kick from the penalty box and they have to try to make it in. My team was so scared to the point where we all held hands and we stayed very close to each other. In the end we were happy because we had made 3 out of 5 goals in and the other team only made 1 goal out of 5 shots! To phrase it better, my team won the tournament and we all lived happily ever…

I was extremely nervous despite the fact that everyone had told me I was going to make varsity since I had done so well at camp. There were about 23 people trying out for varsity and only 18 could make it and so I had a good chance at making the team but that still did not calm my nerves. Before we went out to the brand new turf field for tryouts I was psyching myself out and was doubting myself in all ways possible. My hands were shaking, I was sweating, all while listening to the calm chatter of everyone else echoing loudly in the locker room. “You can’t make varsity; the others are just too good” I was telling myself. During tryouts the pace was fast, the humidity was high, and our spirits were just as high. We had to do lots of ball work and ball skills on the first day and I was messing up completely at times. At one point I screamed out in utter anger because I just could not get my feet to do the correct things. I was so angry with myself because I knew I could do better than what I had done that day. I went home feeling utterly defeated but ready for the next day because there were two days of tryouts. The next day I felt absolutely great and I was doing everything right! I was passing every drill while receiving complements from my coaches. I felt great and as I was walking up the big, blue steps to the locker room, I knew that I had done great at…

I prepare for soccer games like it's the last game I will every play. Later I just end up frustrated with the referee. In the game of soccer, I found that referees can be unfair. Referees can either cost a team the game or favor the other team with uneven enforcement calls, assisting them to a win. Not all referees are unfair, but from my experience a lot are. This past soccer season, I had an away game. In this game, our team only had a center referee, with no assistant referees. I lace up my shoes wanting to score the winning goal of the game. By when the first whistle blew I knew that the referee didn't know what he was doing. I was less than impressed with the referee's understanding of the rules. Whenever the ball would go out-of-bounds…

On Too Hot to Handle, I had many friends and there were some really good soccer players on it. Duringing one of our games, everyone was all bunched together fighting for the ball but, I stayed out of it calling for the ball. My teammate Ivy got the ball and kicked it out to me and I took off running on a breakaway. All the parents were screaming cheering me on as I ran. Once I was close enough to the goal I shot and scored. Everyone was cheering and my teammate can and gave me hugs. I was so happy in that moment I felt like I could do anything and that's when I truly found the love for soccer.…

The team got together the next week for the yearly season ending party. I walked into my coaches house with guilt still hanging on my shoulders. To my surprise though, no one seemed to be mad at me, even when I had lost us the game, and they had to be upset about not winning the championship title. When our captain had started to organize teams for a little kick-around session, I realized why no one was disappointed at me, or in general for that matter. It was possibly the pressure of winning or the excitement that I might finally live up to my sister’s standards, but somewhere along the way I had forgotten why my teammates and I played soccer in the first place. Although it would have been great, it wasn’t to gain a tournament title or win the game. It was because we all shared the love of the game. I didn’t need to receive a trophy or even come out with an underdog win to have fun playing soccer with some of my closest friends, but apparently I needed to freeze up to remember…

I was so angry I camped out in our locker room the rest of the night refusing to talk to anyone and refusing to accept the fact that I was not focused. I was determined on accepting it was because I had an off day and my coach could not see that everyone has an off day. When the meet was over we gathered to pray and talk about many of the accomplishment of the day and many of the failures, by that time I had a good four hours to calm down and forgive my coach for what he said. In that time span I had a lot of thinking time also, soon I realized maybe he was right maybe my focus has been somewhere else this year and not where it needed to…
