Personal Narrative: The Midamerica Nazarene University
Passion The MidAmerica Nazarene University motto is a “Pioneering Spirit, Passion to Serve, and a Purposeful Life.” Each one of these can be summarized into one common theme; God’s will. Growing up as a Christian, we are constantly instructed to adhere to the plans God has for us. The idea is simple; however, following His plans is complex. Beginning at a young age, I have always believed that I would become an elementary school teacher. God had a different plan in mind for my life. One of God’s greatest commandments is to love others. The Nazarene Church represents this love with missions. As a result, I was capable of experiencing a missions trip at a young age; it created a fire in my heart that I could not overlook. After the first missions trip, I traveled to two new countries, fueling my fire even more. The people that I met on these trips are special. They are content with their lives because they know that God is in control. Viewing the perspective of others is what has drawn me into missions. God has placed a call upon my heart; however, I believe that teaching is still a part of the path God has established for me. In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus states, “Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven” (Matt. 18:4 New Living Translation). …show more content…
However, it is imperative that prior to attending college, I am participating in functions that will aid my future career. For example, I occasionally lead early morning prayer at my church; this stems from a missions trip with Extreme Nazarene. Another example is that since resigning from my fast food job, I have focused on babysitting. While babysitting does not appear to be significant, it provides essential skills for a future teacher. As a result of all my planning, I am prepared for anything God has for my

Mission Theology would best be described as God’s involvement in mission and how he utilizes his creation, man, to further His Kingdom and the salvific message of his Son, Jesus Christ. My involvement in missions has taken up the better part of the last fifteen years of my life. I have never personally gone out to the field, but I have been a very huge supporter of the movement. I have been the director of my previous church’s missions ministry. With this position I was able to reach out to missionaries in over thirty-five different countries and send donations on behalf of my church. We would also host these missionaries whenever they were…

There are many different people in the world today with a varied view of religion. There are perhaps thousands of religious belief sets throughout the world. In the workplace we are confronted with individuals from all walks of life, cultures and religions. There is a woman that I work with by the name of Kiran. She is of Indian descent and I have had the good fortune to become close to her and share the gospel of my God. She is always kind and listens to me preach to her without judgment or condemnation.…

It started just as any normal Saturday would; December 8, 2012, I woke up, went through my morning routine and went to soccer practice. I was competing for a spot on the North Carolina ODP (Olympic Development Program) soccer team. Training was being held at fields about two hours from my house. I sat in the backseat of my dad’s car with my two sisters and as we rode to the fields I began to mentally prepare myself for how I would play my best and make the team.…

Imagine being stripped away from everything you knew: your childhood friends; cousins you thought you'd always have with you, and places you called your second, third, or even fourth home. That is exactly what I went through when my family decided to move to Albuquerque, New Mexico. What's different about my experience was that it wasn't necessarily the move that flipped my world upside down but everything that happened in between. I was an awkward, shy, midget-like twelve-year-old when my family and I lost our home during the California money crisis. From that point on it was like a tumbling circus act. My parents ended up losing their jobs until finally my dad moved to New Mexico; leaving me and my family for almost a year. The last thing…

I entered school in August of 2009 and did not focus on my studies. After just one year my GPA was a 1.376, because I did not have the drive that I had in high school to succeed. After a couple of years away from Texas Christian University, while attending a 2-year college, I realized what I wanted to do with my life, sparking the motivation I had been searching for. I then decided to return to TCU and fix my awful GPA, which I managed to do with hard work, determination, and appropriate priorities. After one year of nonstop studying and focus, I have managed to raise my GPA to a 2.777, removing myself from academic probation and qualifying for opportunities I was not eligible before. This was difficult for me because I also work part-time…

Discipleship is extremely important to me because I want to be someone who embraces and assists in spreading God’s teaching to others, to help empower people to know, deeply and wholeheartedly, their God given gifts; to help them know that God has created them in His image that He has a plan for their life. I will combine with Liberty’s mission and my personal faith and beliefs to contribute a well thought out plan to enable each student to reach their goal in serving Christ and worshipping.…

What I do know is that I don't want to wake up ten, fifteen years from now with the bitter realization that I've wasted my life in a job I hate, because I was forced to decide on a career while I was still a teenager. I can only hope and pray that Jesus leads me in the right direction. But just because I may not know what I want to do in the future,it doesn't mean I don't know what kind of person I want to be. I want to be someone who helps people, someone who people can look up to, and can depend on. I feel like there aren't enough genuinely good people in this world, that they are few and far in between. The one genuinely good person I have ever had the pleasure of meeting was my mother, and sadly I won't be able to meet her for a long while. She was a wonderful woman and mother, and is my inspiration. I want to become one of those genuinely good people, like my mother, and I fell like the perfect place to discover how to become that person is at a university. The only thing I'm certain of is that I am a seventeen year old girl looking to get a good education, to learn everything there is to know about the world, and to live my life happy and without any…

It’s Monday, December 9th. Today just seems unusual, like something big is going to happen! I wonder what it will be for a split second, then go back to studying for the Latin America quiz we have tomorrow. Mr. Fielder announces what questions we should highlight on our worksheets. I watch him go back to his desk. I look up and out the window, I see the glistening shimmer of fresh snow dancing in the sky. I cherish every second of it, wishing the time would go by slower. As time creeps closer to 12:20 p.m., the more I shudder at the thought of having to go to room 224. I finish making my flashcards, using splendid handwriting, and proper spelling and grammar. The clock whispers 12:18 p.m. in my ear, I turn white as a ghost.…

The degree that I have started here at the Cumberland’s is a B.S. in Human Services. My next step will be to obtain my Masters Degree in Social work. At this point in time God has not told me where or in what type of setting I will be working, but he has told me that Social Work is my calling in life. This statement is the one I made at the start of the semester here at UC in our icebreaker discussion board. Its funny to look back at this statement I made, and now five weeks later be able to say that there are no longer any unknowns on were I am meant to work. After five weeks of prayer I now have it narrowed down to the type of work God wants me to be doing. Once I have finished my degree at UC I will start to look for a job as a Social Worker in a school setting as a counselor. I love kids, and fill this is the best way I can help those who cannot help their self. This is a job that I know will not be easy, and at times will be very stressful however it will be a very rewarding job and that is what will make it all worth it in the end.…

Throughout everyone's journey through life they will experience at least one meaningful opportunity they had the privilege to take part in. These such experiences define who we are, which in turn grants us access to our mind that influences our own personal aspirations, educational, and career goals in the long term scale of life. It allows us to explore new levels of interest that we have not yet perceived before. Opportunities, such as a church mission trip, allowed me to broaden myself to be inspired to explore new career interest that I have not thought or explored before. In greater context this trip allowed me to spark my interest into a career field that I wish to pursue further on down my timeline at an early point in my high school career rather than later.…

The type of work I had interest in, was not as simple as basic volunteering. I learned ways to show people the love of Christianity through my lifestyle and actions. One of the most amazing parts of the church ministry is that I get to meet all types of people from different backgrounds and walks of life. Evangelism is also helpful to my life. When properly motivated, I learn how to love and care for my neighbors and strangers around me and how to interact better with those who are…

In my Character Education class, our teacher started talking about how much our future should mean to us and how having a mission in your life makes all the difference and helps you focus on what you want. So I made a mission statement of my own to share with you what it is I want in life: "Remember, your heart is a muscle the size of your fist. So keep loving, keep fighting"-Mates of State. Humans are here to experience change and that's exactly what I want in life for me, and for the world too. God sent us to be the change we want in ourselves. When I think about my future, so many things come to mind…
