In primary school, we did approximately five subjects,
but in high school was different. We were doing every subject, and it got even worst in grade nine. It was ready difficult doing the Sciences, Math, English, and all the other skilled subjects. But I did the best that I could and managed to pass all of them. I couldn’t have done all of that without the help of some supportive teachers, and some wonderful friends.
The most terrifying moment for a majority students was on report day; This was the day when I shivered with fear, knowing that if I didn’t do well on my exams the outcome was not going to be pleasant. I can remember my first report that my mother collected; the results were so undesirable and I felt disappointed knowing that I left primary school with tremendous expectations, and I ended up failing almost all my subjects. The reaction from my parents was awful, and I told myself that I was never going to let something like that happen again. I kept that promise, and I can gladly say I did well for the rest of the years that I spent in high school; I never tried to disappoint my parents again and that made them proud.
I was attending a school where the students didn’t care about rules no matter the punishment that was to come. All that changed when we received a new principal when I was in grade 9. The principal and securities would check almost every uniform to see if we were properly attired for school, if we were not we would be sent back home. We were also required to leave our cellular phones at the front gate where we would pay $10 at the cashier and our form teachers would collect them after school for us; they ensured to let securities search our belongings daily, and if were caught with any cellular phone we needed to pay a total of $1000 for it to be return back to us. We also needed permits to bring other devices on the compound, or they would be confiscated.
These are the things that made my high school experience worthwhile, the awful reports made me pushed further and inspire me to work harder. The number of subjects taught me how to accomplish things in an orderly manner, and the school rules showed me how important it is to follow given instructions. High school has its ups and downs and I can say it is a very essential time in our lives that seems to mold us into the persons that we wish to be in the near future. I can gladly say I enjoyed the five years that I spent at William Knibb, it was a wonderful experience and I had some excellent teachers who would stop at nothing until we learn, for that I am grateful. Farewell to high school.
