Personal Narrative: The World Trade Center
I was a tall skyscraper that was known to the world as World Peace Through Trade. In 1946, the New York Legislature came up with a group called The World Trade Corporation and they developed The World Trade Center in lower Manhattan. In 1958, the World Trade Center Corporations hired three guys named Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill to come up with a design for me. A year later the designs were released to the public. By the time they actually started constructing me it was August of 1968. It only took a few years for them to build me and it was December 23, 1970 when I was finally done being built. I was 1,368 feet tall, making me the world’s tallest building at the time. So many people worked their that the i had my own zip code Many companies came in and used me for space to have offices. Some businesses moved in even before I was done being built to claim their spots. Many workers would bring their children and leave them in the daycare that i had. Not only was I an office building but I had a restaurant on the 107th floor. It was called The Windows of the World. Along with a restaurant I also had a subway that had a stop underground for all the people who either worked in my tower or nearby. There were so many activities you could do besides just working. Andrea, I like the paragraph you pulled from the book because it really sheds light on the major changes of how life is lived now. To Ish, the great disaster is something he has experiences first hand where the younger members of the tribe have only heard of what happened. As generations continue the great disaster becomes history, another event in a book. The first hand experience is gone because all who lived during it have pasted. There is a world of difference between experiencing something and being told about something. It reminds me of 9/11, being that freshmen entering high school this past year are the first class to learn about 9/11 as history because they were not alive during it. It’s a foreign concept for me to think that student…

I have heard many people around me saying that you should go walk the Brooklyn Bridge at least once and I never have a chance to fulfill it. Through this opportunity, I called my friend up to accompany me to walk the Bridge for the first time. Based on the information from the history of the United States, the Brooklyn Bridge was completed in 1883 and considered as an engineering marvel for that time. It remains as one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. During mid-1800s, the ferries connected Manhattan and Brooklyn. Ferries was a major convenience transportation for us, the people of that day were used to oars and sails to ride boats. These faster, more reliable ferries helped Brooklyn grow until the bridge was build. When…

The mission we were doing was the Cuban missile crisis. We had to get the launch codes before the commander got back in 1 hour. Two of the coolest parts where a telephone that we had to take apart and a fake bookshelf. The hardest part was the locks. It was agonizing looking at the timer every few seconds. We didn't really get started until about halfway in. Even them, we were screaming and yelling at each other. Eventually, after we had used all our hints and we had about 10 seconds left, we got out. Never in my life had I seen a woman quite as beautiful as her. I woke up on the morning of September 11, 2001 and looked at my wife still sleeping next to me. I took a moment to revel in her beauty, and think about what it would be like to be a father. Irene was eight months pregnant with a little boy. I had no doubts that she would be an outstanding mother, but i doubted myself. I'm a firefighter, I'm never home. What if I wasn't the best dad? So many things rushed my mind, but I pushed them aside and began gathering my things to head to work. It was only 5 o'clock so I was very careful not to wake my sleeping wife. She was exhausted and I knew it, so my intentions were to let her rest. I've never regretted anything more than not waking her on that morning. I walked out my front door without so much as an "I Love You." or a "Goodbye sweetie, have a good day!" I was gone to work, gone to Squad 252 of the FDNY.…

After you first pull into the crowded parking lot the walk is horrific. My teeth were chattering so hard I swear that my teeth were going to fall out. I had my favorite sweatshirt on under my Blackhawks jersey with a coat and a hat, and it didn’t even help with the arctic temperature that I encountered on my walk in. Once I finally approached the doors to the United Center I had to wait in a line to get into the stadium that was so long I started to see my hair turning gray. I was pushed around by at least a hundred people in line. Finally, My dad and I got in the stadium, and even an hour before game time people all around us were super pumped for the game at hand which was the Chicago Blackhawks against the Nashville Predators.…
