Personal Narrative: Tough Guise Or Dream World

When I tell my best friend about a story about someone who went through a hard situation, he would always say, “That’s just one person, not the world.” It is so funny to discredit someone’s experience because it is not the majority, but their experience is still valid. When we watched Tough Guise or Dream World, we could have easily dismissed experiences such as the New York Parade because it was just a couple of girls and not 50% of the population, forgetting that racism, discrimination and slavery started from somewhere. It only took one person to say “That’s so gay,” before it became a popular term to use to describe something that is stupid. This experience is also true for the terminology used to put other women down, such as slut. “I
read somewhere that the word 'slut' is a word more commonly used by women against other women.” Those words, that experience, effects the way that woman views herself. Which I find interesting, seeing as it has such a negative connotation. When we look at her experience, we do not have to compare her experience to others, especially in terms of being called a slut, but we have to reflect on how many times a girl has been called a slut and felt less of herself.
