Personal Narrative: What A Mom Takes To Be A Hero
When I was a little girl, a hero meant having super powers and saving the world from villains as I saw in movies like Batman, Superman, and pretty much every superhero movie. As I grew up, I started realizing that being a hero meant more than that. It takes courage, strength, and bravery to do half the tasks those characters did in the movies. I honestly think the one person that comes closest to a hero would be my own mother. Not only does she exemplify the numerous amount of traits it takes to be called a hero, she had to go through so much to learn from her mistakes and become the woman she is today. To be a hero doesn’t mean one has to be super brave and smart and change the world. To me, being a hero means having the emotional
strength to get through life’s obstacles and still have a positive attitude towards the worst of them. Each day, we all face different challenges, especially as a teenager, and the way we decide to deal with these challenges defines who we are. To be a hero means to be selfless and caring when it comes to understanding other people’s struggles, and sometimes even to make sacrifices of our own for the good of others.
My mother best exemplifies a hero because she has never once looked at anything negatively. She had to escape a war in her home country to get to America and remained strong through it all. I am so thankful that I get to learn from her every day and see a real life hero right before me. My mom is the reason why I have such big dreams and believe I can achieve my goals, because she achieved her own, no matter how big they might’ve seemed.
Many of us throw the term hero around lightly without knowing the real significance of it. They may not have to make a change in the world, but they definitely affect the people around them and make them want to achieve higher. Just like in Beowulf, my mother reflects a literature hero by being selfless, brave, and strong mentally. She puts others before herself and always makes sure everyone feels alright. My mom makes a hero and she’ll always be my hero. I owe so much to her for showing me how to stay a strong and kind person and to never stop smiling.
