Personal Narrative: What I Learned From Project Citizen
What I learned From Project Citizen… What I learned from Project Citizen is that it can be really difficult to work with individuals as a team, it's especially difficult when your team is made up of some individuals that you have never worked with or if those individuals have different views, but working as a team sometimes is very helpful. My team was made up of 5 members by the names of Elwin Bunatao, Madelynn Parkinson, Galdino Ocampo, Pablo Vergara, and myself.
It's very difficult to work with individuals you have never worked with before, for example I had never worked with Elwin, Madelynn or Galdino. I believe that it is always difficult when we have to work as a team because not all of the team members are going to take the project seriously and sometimes one person ends up doing most of the work. That was very difficult. It became extremely difficult when some of my team members rarely showed up for our meetings. It also became even more difficult when those same members never communicated with us. With this project I felt that as a team we should all have good communication skills and we should let each other know when one of us might show up late or if we need a ride. I believed that as a team we should have

For example we all had different topics and issues and they were anything from nationwide controversial issues to state or local issues. We ended up choosing litter and a way to help with the litter problem. Well at first not everybody agreed we debated and I saw other people's views. It became very difficult when we wouldn't agree and we would get stuck because no one would agree. So that’s one thing that is hard when working with a team. It was also very hard when one of my team members would not work on their part of the portfolio so I had to do it because they weren't being responsible. So teamwork doesn't always go so

I’m happy with who I am today, just as everyone should be. But if I could change anything about myself, I’d want to have more motivation to do things. In the mornings before school I can barely get out of bed because I’m so tired and don’t want to go to school. I’m exceedingly intelligent but I don’t have any drive. I procrastinate on most of my work, and sometimes I just don’t want to do the work. Right now I’m rank 14 in my class but I could’ve been higher if I had any drive my freshman year. I don’t think about how my decisions now will impact me later and when I do, I don’t really care. I also don’t have much motivation to do things in sports activities. Last year I played volleyball and I never had that much playing time. Never being able…

What worked well for us was taking control of the assignment and the "get-it-done" attitude we adopted once we began communicating. We were able to assign team members different parts to work on, and each was posted in time and was put together well. The best was when one person took all the postings and as able to put it all together and edit the project.…

In chapter 12, the key event to me was when Claudia and Finn talked to each other through the keys. I felt many emotions when reading their interaction one of them being happy. I felt happy when they talked to each other because it was a turning point in the story in my opinion. I also felt surprised because at first, I thought by having two keys, there would be a lock that would need both keys to hear and speak to each other. I also felt confused by the way they conversed; How could they now hear each other but not before. I think by having one key being touched, the other key can hear because on page 153 Claudia says she breathed and rubbed on the key making it warm and on page 154 Finn says when he touches the key it's warm.I like the way the author wrote the scene from both perspectives, it gave us the readers a clearer understanding of how both Finn and Claudia felt. I also like how the author described the way both keys affect each other and have a "key" connection.…

My mother, “Regina Hopkins,” has been a positive influence in my life. She has raised 6 kids all by herself as well as earned a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from a City College in Gainesville, Florida. My mother has been through pretty much everything a person can go through outside of war and was still able to be there and provide for all 6 of her kids. In high school, my mother wanted to play football and couldn't because she was a girl and back-in-the-day women were not allowed to play football with the guys. However, she remained strong by raising 6 kids and independently took care of all of us on her own. My mother has several qualities that I would love to develop. The first quality she has is balance; she certainly knows how to make…

Teamwork was a part of my undergraduate degree. A specific example of a teamwork challenge that I faced was the annual robotic competition. The team was polarized on the subject of the mechanism design. Given time and resource constraints it would not have been possible to allow sub groups to pursue individual projects. The problem was eventually resolved by adopting a design in line with the project objects and which was realizable within the limited time period with budget. As a team leader I filled in the role of a facilitator and kept the team on track in meeting the deliverables. I also ensured that each member got a fair share of participation and could contribute equally since the project was crucial for every engineering student and each of us was there to learn. The effort was successful as the team emerged the 5th best team amongst 50 other participating teams.…

America’s gift to my generation is the freedom of choice, the freedom of speech, and independence. Many strong, brave men and women fought heroically for our freedom and rights, and they still fight to preserve the freedoms they attained. Asa Philip Randolph, a leader of the Civil Rights Movement, once said, “Freedom is never given; it is won,” and that is what our heroes did, they fought, consequently winning our freedoms.…

Ever since I was born, I was a military brat. Not knowing where to call home, or if any place could be home, I moved. I moved six times, four of those places were towns that nobody could think about. Germany, North Carolina, Alaska, North Carolina, Germany, and Alaska, yet no place to call home. May 22, 1999, my first day on this world; Kronach hospital had its first American baby in their hands, yet they acted like I was a different species. The only event I remember was when I was about one. While I was one, I grabbed everything in my reach, even a grill handle. As a baby, I did not know that the handle was moving, the grill top had smashed my thumb. Ever since that event, I now have a starfish mark on the side of my right thumb from where the stiches were.…

There were a lot of positives about our group. We are all very educated and excited about the things that we were presenting on and many of us have experience on what we were doing. For example, I have done blood pressures and blood sugars on missions trips in the past and Christina does both in the hospitals for clinical. This was very helpful in getting our health fair done properly and effectively because we knew that we were doing it correctly. Some weaknesses that the team encountered were ensuring that everyone completed their assigned task and had it turned in on time. I had initially failed at this as I did not complete or turn in my portion of the grant proposal. I then got my act together and was an active participant for the rest of the service learning project. I think that after the first part of the project, the grant proposal, our group…

Throughout my life I have encountered many circumstances that have shaped me into the person I am today. I was born in Moroleon, Guanajuato, Mexico. I attended school in Mexico all the way to second grade. In the summer of 2006 I moved to Cumming, Georgia. It was the hardest thing to do because I left everything that I care the most about. We lived in a trailer which was not the nicest place and in the middle of the forest. I started school at the beginning of August. I had always loved school so I was so excited for the first day. I knew it was going to be hard because I would have to conquer so many obstacles on the way. At this time the only English I knew was probably counting from one to ten and some of the colors. My Father knew some…

Traveling into the Indian Territory, we were being angrily chased down by three Indians furiously shouting at us. Dashing through the thick forest, the savage Indians were throwing spears and shooting arrows that narrowly missed us. Although neither Gideon nor I was mortally injured, I did suffer from a nick from an arrow piercing near my ear. Thankfully, a group of burly fur traders approached from the side, which frightened the Indians to run away. Acknowledging that Gideon and I were inexperienced travelers in the west, they offered us protection in exchange for some valuable possessions. As a consequence, knowing that they were our best alternative for survival, we gave them our antique gold pocket watches and assumed the identities of novice fur traders. From that point on, we followed them through the west and adopted their skills for efficiently hunting animals and keeping warm in the harsh, cold weather. During one of our rest points, we approached a large Cherokee settlement located in Park Hill in which our group leader was friends with the Cherokee leader John Ross.…

Football has always been a big part of my life. As a young boy I would day dream of making insane touchdowns, making tackles that would leave man stuck in the ground, and even winning the heisman trophy. In 7th grade I had begged my mother endlessly to sign me up for pee wee football because she would always worry about the risks of football. After finally getting her to sign me up, we went straight into the season. I chose to play running back because as a 12-year-old I was remarkably fast having timed 5.3 in the 40 yard-dash. After a few weeks in the season we approached the playoffs and found out our opponent for the first round of the playoffs were the jaguars who were undefeated. Our team didn’t have the best chemistry on…

When it comes to teamwork, most people will consider teamwork in terms of being part of a baseball, basketball, or football team. In contrast, a team is “really just a group of people who use their skills, experience, and knowledge to work toward a common goal” (Beverly K. Bachel, 2007). Teams working together in the workplace are extremely productive and profitable. Teams working together increase problem-solving skills and innovation, quality, and decrease turnover and absenteeism. (Scarnati, J 2006) Teams have an overall high success rate when well structured and the communication between the team members stays open throughout the project. A team is a collection of individuals who have gathered to achieve the same…
