One of our rights, as residents of the United States, is the freedom of choice. The freedom of choice allows us to make decisions for ourselves; it doesn’t let the government choose for us. We are allowed to choose the path of our lives. Who we marry, where we live, as well as who we become are all choices that we make
for ourselves. The government can’t designate our jobs, our schooling, or order us to follow a certain religion. The way we live our life is our choice, and our choice only. Secondly, we have the freedom of speech. Freedom of speech gives us the right to express our opinions without restraint. We can speak our opinions without the worry of suppression, or we can choose not to speak at all. Peacefully protesting against what we think is wrong and expressing what we think is good is one of our rights given to us by freedom of speech. People are allowed to burn the American flag to show how they feel, no matter the opinion of another. Lastly, our country is independent from any other nation. We have the privilege of ruling ourselves. We establish and follow our own laws. When we became a self-governing country and the Constitution was formed, we were given many freedoms and rights that are special to America. America’s independence means American citizen’s freedom.
America’s heroic armed forces gave my generation the freedom to choose our lives; the freedom to express ourselves with no unreasonable limitations; and our ability to become our own, strong, united country.
