Personal Narrative: Why Naty Girls Need Love
Sorry it has taken me a while to s end these pictures and articles, but I was really trying to get the VHS video converted into a DVD for you. The VHS was when you, me, Shanna, Liz and Cindy went to the fair and we paid $15 to sing Kareoke (money went to Special Olympics); we sand Naty Girls need Love to – boy did we stink. My kids laughed and said never show that to anyone else!!! I will keep trying though.

Enjoy,

In the book, Growing up Chicana/o, written by various authors, the characters from each story experience many situations where stereotypes that discriminate their race make their lives much more problematic. Even though these children are knocked down, all of them seem to get back up and become stronger, more mature people. Maturity was one of the most important themes of this book. Racial stereotypes create obstacles for Chicana/o children in school or in extra curricular activities. The Chicana/o children in stories like, Eleven, The Scholarship Jacket, and Pocho all deal with stereotypes that hurt or discriminate against them.…

The Caddo hunters mostly used bows and arrows. When the Caddo fought they used bow, arrows, lances, and tomahawks. The farmers used hoes and spades to farm crops. The Caddo made their tools from wood, carved bone, and mussel shells. They also made heavy stone axes for cutting…

The day has finally come, the day that everyone is waiting for. Today is the day that my mom will see if the cancer is gone or has spreaded. On the other hand, Carmen has been counting everything that she sees. Yes, my grade has moved up tremendously because of Carmen. Shawntea is still talking about her psychic dreams even though I have already proved her wrong. Thanks to Iliana, all the Chia Pets that I have now decided to bring to the hospital are all gone. I mean, who would say no to a little kid to make them cry. Definitely a person who has no heart or soul. To this day, I can’t believe that our team, Race for Lisa, was in eighth place for getting five-hundred-twenty-six names!…

This is another quote that focuses on the amount of women all over the world who are forced to last (through bad times) whatever harm comes their way. Not only in Afghanistan, but in every country, and every neighbourhood. This is an on going issue in the world that has been around for centuries and is one that is often times 'swept under the rug.' To me, this issue should not be over looked at all, and I would certainly like to see and take part in educating (communities of people) on women's…

Gender was always a very tricky subject for me until I finally realized gender and sex are two different things. So, gender was never something I ever really thought about. I was a girl and that was that. It was definitely assumed for me based on my biological “label” of female at birth. I grew up with two sisters so there were lots of baby dolls and Barbies. But as I got older, aspects of other gender(s) became aware to me that I decided I wanted to incorporate into my own gender. I did not like wearing dresses so that “norm” was thrown out of my wardrobe options. I was much more comfortable in pants and a t-shirt playing outside. I became very interested in sports and always wanted to be outside shooting baskets or throwing around…

Samuel, I really enjoyed your post as I like hearing about other people’s family history since mine is so diverse. With your skin tone, eyes, and hair I can see why someone may say you look Hispanic. At least you take it in stride. Today, too many people get offended when someone calls them the wrong race or ethnic origin. It is really good that you continue your family’s tradition of cooking Greek and Italian dishes and I hope your children continue that. My family has been in this country so long and has so many nationalities in the mix that we have Southern traditions instead of a specific country. I do enjoy researching my family’s history. I do not have anyone famous in my family so far, but my great-great grandfather, Private John Henry Gwathney, did manage to survive the Civil War while serving under General Nathan Bedford Forrest.…

I believe in love. I believe that love is painful. Love is not when your “lover” walks by and you feel butterflies in your stomach. That is not love, love is the wrenching pain in your heart. The pain you fear will kill you. The unbearable pain, day and night, hour after hour, minute after minute, second after second, until it is done. gone. That is love. Not hugs and kisses, not love songs or love poems. Love is the devil, mean,, cold hearted. That is love.…

I am a black female. My Afro is often met with stranger’s hands and I was once told that my lips made me look clownish. For better or worse, my identity as a black girl has shaped my every experience in this world. It affects not only how the world treats me, but also how I perceive it. Many people look at me and they don’t see past my race, they see a swirl of stereotypes and assume they know me. They don’t know that I am funny, that am a college student, that I love improv, and that one day I want to be on Saturday Night Live. This isn’t there their fault; the media doesn’t show black people with dreams or talent. They show a world where I am angry, sassy and working at a DMV. People assume I am trying to be “White” because I don’t fit their mold of what it means to be black. But…

It is a beautiful day in Sacramento, California and I am just getting lunch at “Mrs. Castillo’s home for Orphans” while I was eating string cheese and carrots with my best friend Elijah, my other friend Allie ran into the cafeteria and said “Hey! Samara! I have something for you, from Mrs. Castillo! After she was done sprinting, she handed me a note that said “Mrs. Castillo’s office, and I looked at the bottom and I saw something circled… and it said NOW!!! In all capitals. I knew that I did something wrong, I just knew it! I was so nervous I felt like I was going to throw up. As soon as I got up to the door I knocked, and heard her say “Come in my dear.” I walked in the door, and as soon as I got in there she turned around…
