Personal Philosophy of Nursing Worksheet
This is a philosophy of nursing that reflects the beliefs and values of Michael Dudikoff.
Today’s date is 04/28/2014.
I chose nursing as my profession because nursing is my patients’ first line of defense against illnesses as well as processes put in place by my place of employment. I became a nurse because I felt that everyone matter and that sometimes the sick and afflicted need someone in their corner.
I believe that the core of nursing is service and compassion. Service means that whatever it takes to make the patient feel better as long as it is within the scope of nursing practice should be done. Compassion helps put us in the patients’ shoes and helps us feel empathy so that we better understand how they feel and how they are dealing with things.
I believe that the focus of nursing is protecting patients from both external and internal factors. We help them get better and stay better from physiological issues as well as protecting them from us as healthcare workers.
My vision for myself as a nurse is that I will be a voice for my patients. I take each and every complaint seriously and do all I can to get to the bottom of things
To live out my philosophy of nursing, every day I must remember this about the following:
1. My patients: Need an honest advocate.
2. My patients’ families: Matter to me as much as the patients.
3. My fellow health care professionals: Are resources at my disposal to better care for my patients.
4. My own health: Comes first because if I’m not healthy I can’t help anyone get healthy.
