3- In order to analyze his activities, Antonio should have a time log. Lets just say for this log he works 7a-7p. So at 7-Receive report. 7:30-Prioritize patients' tasks and delegate. 8:00-Gather any supplies and equipment needed including checking the patients' medication administration record to order any meds if needed. 8:30-Begin patient care including med administration. 9:00- etc............The important thing to remember is to continue to record every 30 minutes. Schedule meetings and time to meet with team members. Antonio should continue to have the to-do-list throughout the whole shift. He can evaluate the list to see what needs to be adjusted in order to help with time management skills.…
Nurses need to be effective with their critical thinking skills and utilize the resources at hand. Using base knowledge to prevent catastrophic events from occurring, such as the potentiation effect of medication. Knowing ,when we as nurses, have met our ability to perform effectively and need assistance is not only important for our well being but the well being of the patient and the organization as a whole. Integrating teamwork in the patient care effort not only builds a solid foundation for the organization but also for the positive outcome of the patient being treated. If for some unfortunate reason an adverse event does occur nurses must remember they “provide valuable insights into care processes when working with patient safety leaders as part of a root cause analysis team. Nurses ' unique knowledge of the care provided is essential for designing the best improvements in care processes” (Hall, Moore, & Barnsteiner, 2008). Probably among the most import ways a nurse can improve quality of care is his/her own self care. This can be done in many ways. Meditation for stress reduction, continuing education for confidence in patient care, are just a few examples. Having a rested, positive, confident attitude when preparing and performing patient care can make difference and help her do no harm and give the utmost quality of care to each patient she/he comes in contact…
My short-term goals consist of ways of improving myself as a student by focusing on my current and future classes. To be a better student, I must have a strategy to grasp the concepts that my classes cover. Such strategies includes managing my time well, being organized, and making sure I take care of my mental health. As a nursing major, I feel that it is my obligation to educate myself about scientific information involving the human health. In the future, I wish to use my education to inspire others, help people recover from injuries, and use it to help better the human condition.…
In most setups, the nurse is not allowed enough time to foster a practical relationship with the patient to know more about his/her needs that should be catered to. As a consequence, the nurse may feel compromised, with the burden of not performing the job well or being unjust towards professional commitments. Nurses can also face over-work as a challenge, especially in situations where their work requires them to deliver more than they are capable of.…
Self schedule some time it can bring a lot of stress to the manager who deal with scheduling.especially when nurses fail to follow the rules of self scheduling .But on the other hand most nurses feel like when they have control of their schedule they deliver better care to the patient due to higher empoyees satification. I do believe that some people will certainly take advantage of this and never want to work a weekend or holiday. These are the situations in which the manager needs to step in and assist with the schedule to meet the patient’s needs.Great post Kelli!…
The assessment tool could have areas relevant to specific agencies involved with young people and with permission practitioners could access this information. For example, a looked after child with special educational needs and known to the Yot could be subjected to at least three different assessments whereas if there was a central assessment and information database it would avoid the risk of duplication and would facilitate the sharing of…
Inter-Professional Practice In the inter-professional health care team, a leader is a valuable member who works with others to provide high-quality care, ensuring patient safety and facilitating positive staff development in long-term care (Frankel, 2008). In many cases, the LPN is seen as a leader, taking charge, influencing and guiding others towards a mutual goal (Hood, 2010). Also, assigning roles and providing guidance to unregulated care providers (UCPs), assisting in maintaining safe work environments and advocating for residents as necessary (Rogers, 2012). Guidance is offered in The College of Licensed Practical Nurses in the form of the Standards of Practice document and Practice Guidelines documents (Rogers, 2012). Moreover, the several leadership styles that we have discussed in class can either complement or diminish the standards of practice. These styles include autocratic, democratic, laissez-faire, and participative. However, this paper will focus on the democratic style which I have identified as my own leadership style. Personal Leadership Style To begin, there are many personal characteristics that have led me to identify with the democratic leadership style. A democratic leader is one who makes members of the group feel more engaged in the process, and encourages group members to share ideas and opinions, even though the leader has the final say over decisions (Nursing Times Learning, 2008). Some other personal characteristics include working in a group to make major decisions and considering each person as a unique individual as each have their own unique personalities and abilities (Anderson, 2009). Just before entering this program, I was a lunch supervisor at a restaurant. I worked as a hostess, server, busser, and barista along side two to…
Edna Pontellier is the main character of the novel, meaning she is the protagonist. Edna is a woman with two children, married to a Leonce Pontellier. Though she complied with society most of her life, she has always felt empty. She loves her husband but is not in love with him. She realizes her oppression and want for freedom when she learns to swim. Her thoughts on love and sex are two un-related things.…
My patients are human beings. They are people with feelings and souls, and they are to be treated with just as much respect as everyone does. It does not matter if they are on their deathbed or just coming in because they have a cough. Being a positive role model is an important philosophy. I was raised watching my mother be a nurse and always enjoyed going to work with her and helping with small things such as passing out ice to the residents of the nursing home. It brought so much joy to their hearts that a child would take time out of his or her day to come and spend it with them. Patient advocacy is also very important to me. I care for a diverse group, anywhere from ambulatory patients to comfort care and hospice patients. Nurses are also providers of most of a patient’s education. Even though a doctor gives a patient details about their treatment plan, alternative treatments, the…
My goal is to provide a safe, nurturing, child-centered environment with a high-quality educational program that serves diverse children and families.…
Since I was very young, I have always wanted to be a nurse. As a 5 year-old, I practiced nursing playing with my dolls and younger sister. Now, when I look back and remember what I was doing as a young girl, it reminds me the simple and unique quality of nursing, which is caring and comforting. According to Rogers nursing is "a learned profession, both a science and an art" (as cited in Masters, 2009 ). The art of nursing is the empathic drive that initiates the nurse to care when she see a sick person that has a need to be fulfilled physically and mentally. The application of the knowledge using evidence based facts is the science part of nursing. I am very interested in educating others regarding health issues. As a mother of two children, my experience with a pediatric doctor who has no time to educate his patient has led me to be determined to further empathize the importance of educating a patient regarding his/her unique health. My personal philosophy of nursing regarding the four major components of nursing (person, health, nurse, and environment) and their interaction among them are as follows:…
There needs to be solidarity in our profession, and yet, what I have observed, is a more individualized approach where we, as nurses, are more worried about ourselves than the whole of the profession. This translates into your willingness to help others and to work together as a team, as well as speak positively about your profession whenever you can.…
Clinical placements have afforded me the arena to develop skills in time management with the ability to prioritise care. I began delegating tasks to other members of the staff team, taking…
The concept of a 12 hour shift for nurses developed in the 1970s as a solution to the nursing shortage that existed and still exists in both the United States and globally. Since the implementation of 12 hour shifts, studies have revealed additional benefits. Nurses are more content and satisfied, reporting “higher job satisfaction and less emotional exhaustion” (Stone, 2006, p. 1103). Patient safety and satisfaction is enriched “through improved communication, increased continuity of care, and more content staff” (Bloodworth, 2001, p. 33). During 12 hour shifts “nurses spent more time with patients” (Dallas, 1975, p. 48), “had more time to make their rounds, read charts, confer about problems, and develop good patient-care plans” (Dallas, 1975, pp. 51-52). Additionally, “there were fewer communication problems with only one shift change-over each 24 hours” (Dallas, 1975, p. 51). Other advantages of the 12 hour shift include improved work performance and productivity, decreased attendance problems, and decreased need to utilize agency or temporary staff.…
Professional nursing is a difficult profession with many stressful scenarios. Nurses must work long shifts and deal with many vastly different issues on a daily basis. The combination of long work hours, constant care of patients, and the stress of seeing death can cause nurses to unravel. Thus, professional nurses need to be calm and level-headed, able to quickly handle a multitude of problems effectively. Nurses are responsible for a patient's quality of care and the execution of the health care plan. A dedication to the job is essential for a nurse to fulfill her nursing duties.…
