Personal SWOT Analysis

“SWOT” stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. SWOT Analysis is sort of all the rage in strategic planning these days, and is typically applied in a business setting to strategize about a certain objective.
SWOT consists of the following two activities:

1. An assessment of the organization’s internal Strengths and Weaknesses 2. An assessment of the Opportunities and Threats posed by its external environment
SWOT analysis provides a framework for visioning by helping the planners to identify and the organization’s GOALS and to further identify the strategies of achieving them. In this case I’m going to apply it on a personal level to analyze my own strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats. This list is used to create a strategy for achieving the objective. Self analysis is a complicated things to do but play an important role for our self developing strategy.
There are some key things to point out here though. First is that I listed more positive than negative factors when talking about myself and less positive factors when thinking about the external situation. Sometimes I would try to judge myself based on others people’s point of view. If I was someone else doing this analysis on me I’d find more negative personal aspects. INTERNAL | Strengths | Weaknesses | * Personal disctinctiveness (good working ethic, able to work under pressure, rush the deadline) * Leadership and communication skill * Easily adapt with new environment. * Creative thinking, that I’ve learned from my previous degree as design student. * Easy going and communicative person, make me easily fit with everyone from other background | * Lack of working experiences * Bad of time management * Sometimes Judgemental/critical of others thus wasting my own time. * Too much negative thinking. | EXTERNAL | Opportunities | Threats | * Have a chance to

According to the assessment, I scored high in extraversion and low in neuroticism, which is in line with the way I traditionally feel about life and work in general. I am usually of relatively happy demeanor and attitude and attempt to exude that feelings to others in an attempt to bring peace and cooperation into the workplace. This is not to say that I can’t get frustrated or disappointed with the situation and “lose it” a bit. But that is not my traditional modus…

I choose to read From The Interesting Narrative of Olaudah Equiano, or Gustavus Vassa, the African, Written by Himself. I think the primary purpose for this was just for him to express what was going on with him in those specific times. I think he might have written to grow as a person and to inform others. I think he wanted to reminisce about the bad times and be glad that he was at a better place. He could also have written this to inform other people about his point of view. For example, to me when he was so amazed at the snow he thought it was salt and the watch that he felt was going to tell on him. It was all from his point of view and it was very interesting and emotional for me. It was a side that whites had never seen and might be…

For my evaluations I had my brother, my boyfriend, my friend and my neighbor evaluate me. Based on their evaluations I scored highest in the Conscientiousness Dimension. I guess that is a good thing. According to The Owners Manual for the Brain I am somewhere between Balanced and Focused. This means that they view me as being organized, responsible, punctual, and dedicated to hard work. I also learned that people who score higher in the Conscientiousness Dimension have a certain way of doing things and tend to see only their way as ‘right' and tend to be perfectionists.…

I want to reflect on the score I received in a previous class in my personality type. I scored ENFP which is "People Orientated, Creative and Highly Optimistic." I don't think I can argue with this assessment of my personality. I love working with people and find myself wanting to be in social settings, not exactly too much of an introvert. When I consider this, it makes me realize why I chose the path I am presently headed on. When I started my undergraduate degree I didn't want a major that focused mostly on the numbers, but wanted to work with the people because I think as managers we must always consider the human element of our organization. I have worked with managers who didn't take into consideration that life will happen and when one is falling short of his/her daily duties, it isn't because they are incapable of performing the job, but perhaps foreign influences outside of their work. I recall reading this as part of “attribution theory." We all have different thought patterns, but I have a tendency to think optimistically and try and consider external factors as reasoning for poor performance. I enjoy working with people and want to be a manager who manages people in a department or a project, regardless of where, it must be with people. I think I have placed myself on the correct direction and look forward to the next level of my growth as a manger working with people.…
