Values are a set of beliefs that we have against what we believe to be right and wrong. We have what we call personal values and professional values. Personal values are what we personally believe to be acceptable. Values are important when working in social care these can ensure that the correct individuals are working in social care.
Something I value is trust; I believe that with any of our relationships we need to have some sort of trust with that person. We need trust to maintain friendships and relationships. I value trust highly as I need to be able to know that I can trust that person, can confide in them and know that they will not tell others.
Another thing I value is respect. I believe that we should all have respect not only for ourselves but for others. When someone is speaking, we should show them respect by listening to what they have got to say and respect that it is their personal view. When someone tells us something in confidence we should show them respect and not go and tell others as they trusted us with the information. Acceptance is the client being recognised as a person of worth. This is about accepting the person for who they really are, this includes their strengths and weaknesses, their appropriate and nor appropriate behaviours and attitudes. When the worker is accepting the individual this does not they approve of their behaviour. They accept the reality of the situation. When the worker accepts the individual for who they are this makes working with them easier. The individual will be more open with the worker, be able to understand why they may behave in that certain way.
Confidently arises when the client discloses information to the worker and they expect this information to be kept secret. As this was disclosed within a professional relation the worker has to keep this secret as this is the clients right. Confidentiality sometimes has to be broken, if the client discloses information about themselves harming themselves or others. It can also be broken as the clients information is often shared with other workers within an agency. This happens to keep other workers up to date and to ensure the client gets the correct type of
