Perspective on an issue:
"Governments must ensure that their major cities receive the financial support they need in order to thrive, because it is primarily in cities that a nation's cultural traditions are preserved and generated."
The speaker asserts that major cities of any country should be aided financially because they are the main contributors to its culture. I, however, disagree with this view. Countries are ever-developing structures and though cities are the pillars on which they stand, the foundation of countries lies in towns, districts and villages. Villages and towns should also be given financial support and attention by the government so that culture is given a platform to thrive.
It would be entirely wrong if a book was judged just by reading the prologue. Similarly, a few cities could not characterise an entire country. The culture of France was not born in Paris and it does not end there either. London alone could not represent the diverse culture of England.
Cities surely give an idea, but not an insight. Moreover, cities are the industrial hubs that attract a great deal of people from all over the world. Eventually, all cultures mingle and the country's original traditions and culture are diluted. Although new cultures are formed here, but a country's identity is retained in its aboriginal traditions.
In the earlier times, people from villages migrated to cities because they promised job opportunities. People aimed to earn money in order to realise their dreams, which the cities promised to fulfill. The jog toward money has now transformed into a race for luxury and the track doesn't seem to end. Living in enclosed appartments, people rarely know the person next door. There is almost no time left for social gatherings to sing folk songs together or to enact ancient stories. However, the steady life of towns and villages provides enough time for culture to flourish, for people to connect with each other. Also, there are many folk artists in small towns who never get the stage from where they can show their cultural heritage. Government aids are, thus, necessary to encourage such talents so that their culture can truly flourish. Not only villages and towns but even the indigenous tribes and ethnic groups hold a place in a nation's cultural picture. There are even some animals that characterise a culture: Bull fights bring Spain to mind, Cows are worshiped in India.
To summarise, government should not limit financial support to cities but also to small towns and districts. It should also reach to other unnderprivileged groups so that their culture can spread far and wide.

From city to city, cultures, environments, and beliefs vary immensely. A city means more than simply “a large town.” For example, my own home of Dallastown, Pennsylvania differs drastically from the much larger city of Philadelphia. Where I grew up, the white population is the overwhelming majority; Philadelphia obviously differs in this category. Cities provide a haven of interesting people from conflicting ideologies, color, and financial statuses. My home’s landscape is regularly hilly and forested, whereas Philadelphia is full of skyscrapers, streets, and city-lights. Every town and city is unique in their own sense; landmarks, culture, music, and even transportation define what that place might stand for, or signify. I’ve visited numerous…
