Neonatal nurses have three different levels that they can be a part of in the hospital ("What Can I Do Now? Exploring Careers For Your Future Nursing" 42). According to Neonatal Nurse Specialist Career Overview, Levels I, II, and III are completely different. In Level, I nurses are responsible for taking care of the generally healthy babies. These infants are born with minor issues that do not need close supervision. In Level II, premature babies and babies born with minor respiratory problems are taken care of. These infants require a little more attention than healthy infants. Neonatal nurses have to monitor and provide the necessary treatment to help make it easier for the infant to grow stronger and healthier. In Level III, the most severe infants are taken care of. These infants require twenty-four seven supervision and sometimes require immediate surgery after birth. Most infants in this unit are required to live in incubators and parents have to be taught how to care for them. Special training and extra education are administered to the neonatal nurses that work in Level III. Although each level requires different qualifications and training, they are all equally…

The birth of a child is a momentous occasion in a person’s life. It may signal the transition of a couple to a family, or the expansion of an already established family unit. The manner in which it is handled can have lasting positive or negative effects. Traditional mother/baby care meant that a nurse was assigned to mother while the nursery nurse was responsible for the baby. The baby transitioned in the nursery until he/she was ready to be with the mother. The infants also boarded in the nursery at night while the mother slept. Current literature suggests however that better outcomes are achieved when the family unit is maintained, keeping the mother and baby together from birth to discharge.…

The profession of nursing has a notable history of being highly honored for its strong dedication to public health service. Nurses not only provide services for health promotion and management of chronic conditions, but also strive to provide health education related to prevention and public safety. This legislation is detrimental to support the demand for improving outcomes, guiding all levels of efforts in addressing the nation’s health, and increasing the likelihood of preventing these diseases while decreasing the mortality rates for people who are at risk. A designated Chief Nurse Officer position would reinforce and meet these demands. The National Nurse for Public Health will continue to be able to cooperate in identifying the priorities of the nation’s health, initiate an urge for nurse volunteerism while building a strong relationship between health-related national organizations and government…

Family-centered maternity care, which involved bringing the fathers of the baby into the delivery room, was just one of the ideas nurse midwives initiated. Nurse midwives incorporated the idea of keeping babies in the same room as the mother after delivery rather than placing the babies in the nursery. Certified Nurse Midwives were advocates for mothers to breastfeed their babies instead of formula feeding which was being taught to the mothers by hospitals during specific time periods (Rooks, 2014). Certified nurse midwives significantly impact the nursing profession. These advanced practice nurses can utilize the skills and knowledge they possess to educate others whether it be at nursing schools or schools of allied health or medicine.
