If you had the chance, the power, to save lives when you die, would you do it? Around 20 people, each day, die from waiting for organ transplants that will never happen, and around 1600 Canadians are put on the organ wait list every year. Depressing, is it not? There was this one case that was displayed on social media recently, where this child had suffered terrible congestive heart failure and the only definitive treatment was cardiac transplant. Around the same time another mother lost her 1 year old healthy child to trauma who chose to donate her son’s organs. This saved this little girl as well as two other children’s lives. Imagine that emotions that must have run through this mother who then heard her son’s heart beat inside the little girl 4 years later. This stuff can be pretty powerful. Everyone here today may be able to save people’s lives, if they so chose to donate their body to science. Ok, so that wraps up most of my speech for today. I have talked to all of you about the benefits of donating your body to science; it is beneficial to medical sciences in the future, providing more opportunities for research and education; it is cheaper to donate your body to science contested with having a proper burial and grave; and finally, you may also be able to donate your organs to those in need.
