Today, I will tell you that organs can be transplanted, the reasons that I think you should become a donor and the benefits that come from organ donation.
I want you to imagine watching a loved one…your grandparent, parent, spouse or significant other, even your own child, dying because one of their vital organs has quit working. Maybe because of a disease or an accident, maybe for a reason that cannot be explained, without any warning. The only chance of this person surviving is through an organ transplant, but there aren’t any available.

I. There are 11 body parts that can be successfully transplanted : A. Heart, heart valves, kidneys, pancreas, lungs, liver, intestines, skin, bone marrow, Connective tissue, corneas.
B. CBS News recorded the first organ transplant that was performed on December 23, 1954. The transplant was done on a kidney. In the last 54 years, there have been More than 400,000 kidney transplants performed.
II. Reasons to be an organ donor :
A. According to OPTN.org, as of today, there are 100,396 candidates on the waiting list for transplants. According to the American Heart Association, there is a name added to the list every 16 minutes.
B. There is no charge for taking your organs after your death. Being a donor will actually save you money because you get a discount on your driver’s license. From the financial aspect of things, your organs cannot be sold. But, unfortunately organs are sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars on the black market.
