The basis for this law is completely immoral and prejudice towards dogs throughout the United States. A dog should not be banned from a state due to the way they appear. The law was created because of a widely spread concern, such as in a Fort Lauderdale, Florida community, that “intimidating Pit Bulls” were “scaring ‘family’ tourists” ( Abordo). The law was also created because people believed it would reduce human injury caused by dogs. They believed this because they thought that banning the breed would eliminate the problem. Dog owners are then left to “guess at what conduct or dog “look” is prohibited” (Gislason). The law has no specific ground in which describes what the dog has to look like. The law simply states that if the dog looks like a dangerous dog or is part of an aggressive breed, the law applies to them.
