Why Do Pitbulls Be Banned

Pitbull Bans When I say, “Think of a dog that is vicious.” what is the first breed that pops into your head? Is it a Rottweiler? German Shepherd? Pomeranian? Even a Chihuahua? Or did you immediately think of the American Pit Bull Terrier? Some of us would categorize American Pit Bull Terriers as goofy, protective, wonderful with children, loyal, and very loving animals. On the other hand, some people would categorize pit bulls as aggressive, bad with children, unpredictable, vicious, and horrible creatures. Many of these bad generalizations of pit bulls come from their negative background (caused by humans) and stereotypes. Almost all of our 50 states currently have breed-specific pitbull laws that either bans pit bulls, or require them
to be sterilized as well as being muzzled and harnessed in public. Some of these states include Ohio, Florida, Colorado, and Kentucky. Even though breed-specific laws (BSL) are falling out of favor, some places are still tightly holding onto their BSL laws. Recently, Montreal has passed a BSL law applying to pit bulls that prohibits anyone from bringing pit bulls from being brought into the city. People that have already had pit bulls living in the city have to acquire a permit for them to keep their dog. People are outraged. When states suddenly pass these laws forbidding people to keep their pets it is very cruel and completely unfair not only to the dogs, but to their family. While some people comply with these new laws by giving up their dogs or even euthanizing them, other people move out of state or secretly keep their dog hidden in their homes. Yes, American Pit Bull Terriers are known to be used for dog fighting. Yes, pit bulls have a bad rap and are horribly stereotyped. But, we should not punish the whole breed because of the actions of their owners. The American Pit Bull Terrier is a great family dog, and a loyal companion. They just need the right owners for everyone to see this. Stop the BSL laws.
