I bet you think predators are horrible! But they are very helpful. Without predators, there wouldn’t be as much as we have now. Predators help keep prey population in balance. Without them there would be too many animals and no space to eat or to run. There would also be health problems. So I am going to tell you good, positive things about predators.
Predators help control the population of the prey in the area. Smaller prey populations can be healthier because disease can spread more easily in a crowded population. Resources, such as food, would be more plentiful. Predators can go after the slower or sick members of the prey population making that population stronger. Being hunted is sad, but only one dying is better for the population as a whole. So as you can see they are good for keeping prey population under control and healthy. …show more content…
If there were no predators, there wouldn’t be enough food.
The herbivores would eat full grown things and little sprouts. Too many prey can kill an entire prairie with too many things eating. Prey would eat all and breed so they would eventually have no room or food. With predators more plants can grow and maybe even a new species of plants that could bring different types of animals. For example, in Yellowstone park, they reintroduced the wolves. The wolves hunted the deer allowing more plants to grow. This allowed different types of animals to feed on the new plants increasing biodiversity and making the ecosystem healthier. When there were no predators in Yellowstone, there weren’t many plants and when there were predators there were new plants, and animals. The wolves also changed the rivers. The new plants kept erosion from happening and the rivers were more stable. They brought more beaver and beaver built dams which made new homes for different animals. Predators are good to keep the whole food chain in order and keep a healthy
ecosystem.
There are even predators that benefit us too. For example a ladybug eats aphids and aphids destroy crops and flowers. Also there are spiders; they might seem creepy but they help us in many ways. They eat flies, mosquitoes and many other species of insects. Another example are the wolves in Yellowstone. The wolves killed coyotes and that helped the rabbit and mice population. They lessened the population of deer and that made more food and now the population of animals is huge in Yellowstone. Many predators help us as well. As you can see they are very good to us and in the wild they help with many things.
Predators keep the ecosystem in balance as you can see. No predators means many herbivores which means less plants. I wouldn’t say seeing, or knowing animals getting killed is fun, but it is what needs to be done in order to keep prey population in order. Predators help in so many ways. There are many more positive and good things to say about predators, but for now that’s all. I hope you enjoyed this paper and have changed your mind at least a little, about predators.
