The New York Daily Newspaper states that most people living in poverty are citizens with colored skin. According to Algernon Austin, who was interviewed by the writers of the newspaper said, “the ratio of black unemployment to white has hardly changed over the decades. Black unemployment has stayed at two to two and a half f the white population since the 1960s.” The quote shows how it does not matter how many years people attempt to effect the future, because the chance of a major change is miniscule. As a result, the amount of unemployed colored people has gone up …show more content…
about 4% over the past sixty years. The quote supports my proposition because of the way society is evolving;people will continue to reject the idea of an equal America. The presidents of our past made laws against segregation, but slavery has taken a new form. The next piece of evidence will show how the problem has grown into something worse.
Due to the way society is today, people will continue to think of themselves as superior to everyone else based on their race, and will continue stereotyping and making horrible assumptions on others in a lower state than them.
“We know right now, the struggle for freedom and justice is real. We live in the most incarcerated country in the world” John Legend said during his acceptance speech for ‘Glory’ at the 2015 Academy Awards. John Legend’s quote reveals that the United States of America has confined its citizens to only express themselves to the extent that the government believes is suitable. The quote supports my premise because it expresses how America is not as free as the leaders of our past intended for it to be. Humanity is propelling people to feel awful about what they do and who they appear as in
society.
In contrast, another portion of humankind believes that minor arguments and battles lead to the first steps of an improved country. The Declaration of Independence quote shows how there is a legal document which states how everyone is equally free proves that all men and women will be treated equally. Yes, there is a document that is critical to America’s history which states all people are equal, but civilization will always chose a different path than the one which was chosen for them to follow.
John Legend and the New York Daily Newspaper have given quotes and factual statements on how equality is not going to be achievable in society. “The ratio of black unemployment to white has hardly changed over the decades. Black unemployment has stayed at two to two and a half times that of the white population since the 1960s” said Austin from the New York Daily Newspaper. Additionally, Mr. Legend announced during his speech, “We know right now, the struggle for freedom and justice is real. We live in the most incarcerated country in the world.” Equality will never happen in the America, because there is going to be one person who will stop others from following the act. Future generations do not have the possibility to achieve it, due to the fact that all humans are raised to believe certain “facts” about the other citizens whom surround them. So, is equality in America truly possible in the future?
