Cloning is the process of creating an identical replica of an organism. There are three types of cloning; reproductive, gene and therapeutic. Reproductive cloning can be used to create an identical copy of an organism that has died or is still alive. Reproductive cloning is when scientists remove a mature somatic cell from a donor animal and place it in an egg cell which has been emptied of its own DNA in its nucleus. The cell is allowed to grow inside a laboratory a little before it is implanted in the womb of another animal (called a surrogate mother) that will give birth to the baby. Gene cloning can be performed by taking a gene from a healthy animal, cloning it and placing it in an animal that has a disease to attempt to combat its illness. Therapeutic cloning can be used to repair …show more content…
There is also the chance that by creating identical copies of humans that they may bring new diseases into the world that scientists have no treatments for which could potentially be lethal. It could also result in mutations in the cloned person. Some people believe that if humans were cloned it would create racial tension as clones could possibly be treated as lesser humans. Many countries have banned the use of human cloning altogether, however some countries allow scientists to use cloning for the purpose of research.
Conclusion
Cloning has many uses that can be both positive and negative. It gives hope to patients waiting for organ donations, can possibly help endangered species reproduce but also has the potential to cause new diseases and divide society. I believe that cloning can be beneficial for the use of creating organs for ill patients however I believe it is ethically wrong to make clones of deceased people or animals because it could lead to more prejudice in
