Issue: Should cell phones be allowed in school?
Opinion/ Thesis: In my opinion I think phones should be allowed in school.
Argument 1: Allowing phones in school can be used in emergencies and knowing their whereabouts.
Tale: In more important emergencies cell phones could protect somebody from serious danger. Students can get in touch with their parents about after school activities too.
Evidence: You can also be in contact with your children. The Pew study stated that 48 percent of parent use their phone to monitor their kids location.
Argument 2: Cell phones are a great learning tool and interactive experience.
Tale: Mobile devices can be used for 21st century skills like learning to collaborate.
Statement: Most devices have an app store with interactive apps that you can download. This tool can be helpful for students that have dyslexia or are visual learners. Smart phones can be useful because you can easily access the internet to look up definitions or research.
Tale: This could also save money for the schools because they will not have to pay for text books, learning tools and etc.
Argument 3: Allowing phones can teach responsibility and avoid double standards.
Example: Several districts have it where administrators come in the classroom and use iPhones and iPads to record the teacher’s progress.
Tale: Personally I think that shouldn’t be if students aren’t allowed to do the same.
Statement: Most teachers during their breaks or lunch use their phones to check emails, get in touch with people and etc. Why should teachers have that right but not students?
