Why Softball Should Be in the Olympics?
Do you ever wonder to yourself why some sports, like softball, aren’t in the Olympics? Well, the reason why softball isn’t in the Olympics is because of the fact if it was, the Olympics would be too big and they think the U.S is too good at it... Personally, I think that softball should be in the Olympics because women sports should be more recognized. The reasons softball should be in the Olympics are, girls like me dream about it, the US is good at it, and it helps women live out their dreams and help their futures.
One of the reasons why softball needs to be back in the Olympics is because younger women dream about being on an Olympic softball field playing their hearts out. “The most difficult part of this has been reading emails from hundreds of young female softball players worldwide saying that their Olympic dreams have been taken” porter said (LA Times). This obviously states that young female softball players are suffering by the decision of taking softball out of the Olympics. “It’s hard not to think about the Olympics when you’re playing at this level. It is devastating because this is what I dreamed about growing up, playing …show more content…
in the Olympics.” Lele said “I know it’s a lot of girls dream, we need to get it back for them.” (US softball). It really is hard to think that when you get out of college you just stop playing softball. It’s one of my dreams that when I get out of college to go to the Olympics. “I hope softball will return to the Olympics so I can complete my and others dreams.” Said Erica (ISF) making younger female softball players dream come true is one reason why we should being softball back into the Olympics. Young females work so hard and are dedicated and sacrifice so much to accomplish their dream of being an Olympian player.
Another important reason why softball should be in the Olympics is because it helps young women and girls grow up to have better characteristics and be better young women. “It promotes self esteem” (Softball Performance). It is important to have self esteem because it can be the difference between success and failure. Also, Esteem can affect your thinking, causing your outlook to be positive or negative. “Softball helps you learn goal setting” (Softball Performance). Learning to set goal is very important when you get older you need to know what you want to do in life. “Learn about dealing with adversity” (Softball Performance). Everyone makes mistakes. If young ladies learn how to deal with adversity, errors, and challenges when they happen on the field, chances are, they’ll be able to translate that skill to real life and effectively minimize mistakes and/or bad decisions as well as competently recover from setbacks. It’s very important to have good characteristics as a person it will help you sooner or later.
Although, there are some concerns about having softball back in the Olympics.
Like, the main reason they don’t want softball in the Olympics is because basically USA is good at it. “The U.S softball blame IOC president and a conspiracy to get rid of the game because American dominance” (NewsTalk). This is wrong for the U.S team to be taken out of the Olympics for this reason of American dominance. “The American women won all three medals, never lost a game in Olympic competition and in 1196 outscored their opponents 51-1” (NewsTalk). This is the reason why IOC wants softball out of the Olympics because the U.S is dominating other teams. It’s not their fault their so good right? You can’t really do anything about them dominating
teams. Having young women follow their dreams and create characteristics on their way is why softball should be back in the Olympics. Women sports need to be more recognized. Creating self esteem, learn about dealing with adversity, and to create your goal will help young females achieve their goals the correct way. This will allow a lot of women that play softball and any other women sports happy about having their sport back in the Olympics and also having other women that their sport is not in it to have the courage to step up and speak up why their sport should also be in the Olympics.
