In the article "The sad truth about saggin' pants" by Judge Greg Mathis has open my eyes to some of societys flaws today. I never noticed how something as small as wearing the pants a certain way can have so much history along with it. When I seen the fashion of "saggin' pants" come into style I wasn't sure if should follow along with it because I wasnt sure where the style itself has come from along with others. Judge Mathis is right when he states his claim that todays socitey has no idea as to where the style has orginated from because if they did many of todays urban and suburban sociteys wouldn't dress the way they do. I feel as though nowadays with society becoming harsher people feel as though they need to dress the way do to fit in with a crew or gang because apperance these days means more than it should.…

After analyzing “The Media Assault on Male Body Image”, I strongly agree with its assertion and believe it should be published in The Shorthorn. This article is written by Seed Magazine, so its credibility is questionable. However because the article has a persuasive rhetorical appeal, is relatable to UTA students, and is well-written. I believe it’ll be a popular piece in The Shorthorn.…

The definition of sagging pants is pants that are worn below the waist. This style has become popular to this generation. Sagging pants became a style to this generation by rappers. Some of this generation thinks it is cool to wear sagging pants. I beg to differ; I think it shows how immature and a lack of carrying yourself in a proper and appropriate way. What they don’t know is that sagging pants originally came from prison and in prison it showed to other males that you are available to the same sex. It really bothers me when I see some guys and even some girls copy this style. I think there should be a law that bans sagging pants. It is so inappropriate for anybody to walk around the streets with their…

Sagging first originated in prison, where prisoners were not allowed to have belts for safety reasons. Belts were considered weapons to commit suicide or kill other prisoners. Since the prisoners could not wear belts, their loose pants would sag and fall onto the middle of the butt or straight to the floor. Rumors inside prisons said that whoever sagged was considered a homosexual. Only the men that wanted “it up the butt” sagged since they were sexually unsatisfied from so many years of being locked up.…

My question has been the same for many ages. I don 't like the fact that so many people sag their pants. To me it looks nasty and showing off your underwear is not cool and I don 't know why people think it would be. I have done this research on more than one occasion and not for a class assignment, but because I wanted to try and understand what they could possibly get out of such unruly attire. There have been quite a few stories going around about the exact beginnings of the habit of sagging one 's pants. One of the answers to Why Do People Sag Their Pants may be traced a few years back, in prison of all places. There are actually two versions of Why Do People Sag Their Pants that may be traced back to men 's prison. One reason is that men 's prison pants are sometimes so loose on them that they tend to fall down, reaching several inches below the waist. As belts are not allowed in prison, for safety reasons, loose and sagging pants became commonplace here. Another story that traces back the roots of Why Do People Sag Their Pants in prison, is somewhat incredible but, some people attest to the authenticity of the tall tale. The story goes, male inmates sag their pants as an invitation for an intimate encounter with their fellow inmates. It was used as a sign that they welcome any intimate advances. While some consider this yarn as preposterous; it has still managed to reach legendary heights that people talk about it now and even see it as a huge probability as to the reason why people sag their pants. We have seen it often enough, mostly in young men, sagging pants that show off almost half of their boxers. Perplexing and troubling it may seem to some; this popular trend has been in mainstream street fashion for a couple of years now. While a few people may never understand the reason behind the question Why Do People Sag Their Pants; it has become a huge part in pop culture that when once it was looked upon as distasteful and…

A shocking trend is gaining ground in teen dressing. For example, last summer, my 13-year-old daughter needed a dress to attend a friend's birthday dinner. What we found was a black “something” (is what I will call it) with a neckline so low that my condition for buying it was a fill-in-the-gap black undergarment. She was not happy about it but complied.…

As I stood in the swift breeziness of the January air on the foundation of Iowa’s capital building, I took a good look around at all the people surrounding me. To my left was a quirky fearless woman with a sign saying, “Strong Women Scare Weak Men”. To my right a courageous African American woman was standing topless chanting, “My body my rights”. I was in awe at how incredible and how daring all of these women and men were. I mean an entire group of women were standing topless so confident and looked absolutely fearless. As I think about it now there is absolutely no reason why every women/men should not feel this exact same way. Our society has pointed us to a certain “figure” that we should all look like, causing this fear of not looking…

Secondly, it would be extremely embarrassing to watch a stranger’s loose pants go down in a public arena. Saggy pants are by definition not fastened by a belt. So, you may catch him/her accidentally pants-down anytime and anywhere. If a teacher saw a student wearing sagging pants he or she would most likely tell them to wear them properly. The student might try to argue with the teacher and get into more trouble. If the student is resistant then that time is wasted on the issue. That time could have been used to help another student and overall causes stress on the teacher. If sagging pants were completely banned then there wouldn’t be a need to argue on the issue anymore.…
