General Purpose: to persuade
Specific Purpose: to persuade my audience that bullying in schools is not okay and should be stopped
Introduction
I. Does anyone know what it means when a child becomes withdrawn, shows fear when its time to go to school and has declined in school performance?
II. What if I told you it is symptoms of a child being bullied? Could you ever imagine such a thing being acceptable and prominent in this day and age?
III. I think we can all admit to being bullied once upon a time or even witnessed or done the bullying ourselves. Whatever the case may be I hope I can get you to agree that bullying needs to be stopped.
IV. To simply understand why you should agree that bullying needs to be stopped immediately I will discuss the issue of bullying, why children bully, and lastly the effects bullying has on children.
Body
I. You must understand that bullying is not just a small issue, it’s an issue that is worldwide.
A. Bullying is a problem that affects millions of students of all races and classes.
1. 1 out of 4 kids are bullied and depending on their ages up to 43% of students have been bullied while online according to the non-profit organization STOMP out Bullying.
2. Child and teen bullying and cyberbullying are at an all time high. Some students are so tormented by it that they result to suicide. It has everyone worried and not just the victims but also parents, teachers and others who might not understand how extreme bullying can get.
3. This video clip just shows how extreme bullying can be and how it’s a major issue for children. It can really raise awareness about this issue.
B. Some feel that bullying is a normal right of passage in growing up and that they will soon overcome it and move on.
1. I’m here to tell you that its not! There will always be issues and conflicts between children but bullying its intentional cruelty, harassment, and emotional and physical and sometimes sexual abuse.
