Fast Food?
Topic: Don’t eat fast food.
Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience not to eat fast food, and to start eating healthier
Thesis Statement: Eating fast food regularly can affect your health drastically, and can be disastrous. It’s up to you as an individual to start making healthy habits, and stop consuming all those unhealthy foods.
Intro
Attention Material/ Credibility Material: When we’re hungry, and don’t have time to cook we all want something that is cheap and fast. It can easily become a habit to go and get a cheap meal. America is considered the fattest nation in the world. As 60 percent- or 100 billion Americans are either overweight or obese.
Tie to the audience: There are more than 232,000 fast food establishments in the United States alone. The food that they are selling are high in calories and low in nutrition, but we just can’t get enough of it, knowing how bad the food can be to us.
Thesis: Fast food companies are growing every single day. And many Americans are either becoming obese or are even being diagnosed with chronic diseases such as hypertension, high cholesterol, and diabetes. It’s time that we start making a difference, and cut out all the unhealthy fast foods. Transition: I will begin by telling you all why fast food is bad for us, and why we shouldn’t be eating eat so often.
Body
Main Point: Fast food is very poor in nutrients, and high in calories because of unhealthy junk like fast food numerous chronic diseases are being diagnosed all over the world to millions of people.
Statement of need for action: The problem is that many chronic diseases are rising all over the world, and sometimes because of these diseases death even occurs.
Description of problem: Because of unhealthy junk like fast food many chronic diseases such as hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, nutrient deficiencies, and diabetes are rapidly increasing today.
Signs, symptoms, and effects of problem: Those who ate fast food at least twice a week or more has a 27 percent increased risk of developing diabetes, and also a 56 percent increased risk of death from coronary heart disease.
Example, Narrative, or Testimony: Most health problems that arise from consuming fast food are a result of very high levels of bad fats such as trans-fat, saturated fat, sugar, and sodium.
Importance of problem: Obesity and many chronic diseases are rapidly growing all over the world, and it’s time for us to make a difference in our lifestyles and start living a healthier life. A lifestyle with a proper nutrition can help lead you to a longer, healthier, and a more fulfilling lifestyle.
Facts/Statistics: In a 2005 study, the Canadian research team noted that regions high in fast food density are 2.52 times more likely to be extremely high in all-cause mortality.
Example/Narrative: Often, someone can consume all of the calories they need for the entire day in one sitting at a fast food restaurant.
Transition Statement: I’m sure that you can see at least some of the many reasons why it isn’t good to be eating fast food, and that it might just be a better idea to just cook up your own burger at home.
Main Point #2: Making healthier choices in food will not only help lead you to a longer life, but a happy life.
Description of solution: If you quit eating fast food, it will not only benefit you but it can also benefit the people that are in your life. The healthier choices you make the longer you will stay around, and reduce your risks for any type of chronic diseases. Talk to a dietician to see what kinds of foods you can fit into your diet that can help get you to a healthier and fulfilling lifestyle.
2. Check your weight, blood pressure, and triglyceride levels to make sure that your body is right on track. And you are at a healthy level.
A. Try to cut down your intake of junk food to at least once a week. Making a small change like that could make so much of a big difference in your life.
Transition Statement: Doing something as simple as giving up fast food can make such a difference. Now let’s look at what may happen if you choose to drop your bad habits and what can happen if you don’t.
Main Point #3: Breaking up your bad eating habits can do so much good things for you, and is so much better for your body.
1. If you do give up fast food, you reduce your risk of obtaining any chronic diseases that can even result to death if it’s not taken care of. You also add a couple more years to your life.
2. The problem arises if you keep those bad eating habits and don’t take good care of your body. The consequences could last a lifetime or even kill you.
Conclusion:
A. Fast food establishments are growing rapidly all over the world, and is becoming part of our life in the modern society. Fast food is cheap and convenient. Also, fast food is found almost anywhere. But, we don’t know that each bite of fast food that we take, we are risking our life. Many of us know that fast food isn’t good for us but we don’t know exactly how bad it really is.
Tie back to the audience: Knowing how bad fast food is for you, would you still eat it? What if you found out you were diagnosed with a chronic disease, would you still eat fast food?
Concluding remarks: Your life is all in your hands the way you eat, and take care of your body is all up to you! Make smart choices and treat your body right!

Fast food consumption is becoming a major concern as obesity and diseases are linked to unhealthy eating habits. Due to the prevalence in obesity, controversy has been raised around the question of whether or not it is the consumers or the corporations to blame. Many fast food chains have been sued for allegedly contributing to obesity and have been blamed for the poor health of many people. Although some fast food restaurants may be partially responsible when they fail to post nutrition information and warnings about the foods content as well as use sophisticated marketing strategies to lure in consumers, it is a ridiculous claim to say that the corporations are completely at fault. In my opinion, people who suffer from obesity and other related diseases caused by unhealthy eating habits have no one to blame but themselves.
