Persuasive Speech About Moving Away
Every year three days before Christmas Eve, Santa calls all the elves into the Great Meeting Hall and chooses one special elf to read the names on the Naughty or Nice list. As soon as all the elves have made it into the room, Santa tells everyone to line up, then he walks down the long line and studies each elf with great scrutiny. When he is done he walks onto the next and the previous hangs their head in shame and walks out of the room, to continue their duties. He goes on down the list and he gets to the elf right in front of me, then all of the sudden a wide grin spread across Santa’s face, and he shouts, “I have the elf to read the list this year! Please walk with me up to the stage and introduce yourself.” It was an ordinary young elf having only been in the service for a few months and hasn’t even made a name for himself yet. He was short and plump and had rosy cheeks he was the epitome of innocence. He finally got up to the stage and Santa lowers the microphone down to his height, “Hello, my name is Dan, I am so honored that Santa would pick me for this job although I have yet to make a difference in the elf community.” As he continues on with his speech …show more content…
So it all started a few years ago when I was sitting in a little diner having dinner with my mom and dad, they had decided to let me skip school so I was the only kid in the dinner. Then two of the polar bear police officers come in and start asking everyone there names and checking this piece of paper with names and pictures on it. If you were on the list then they had you stand up and they put your hands behind your back and handcuffed you and went onto the next person. So far they had only one person standing there handcuffed an older woman around my mom and dad's age. They finally get to our table and I can see a flash of recognition behind their eyes and they ask, “Bob and Janis

At the same time that Santa permeated magazines and overshadowed Christmas, other famous figures appeared to promote the holiday. In January 1939, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer was created by Robert May of Chicago. At this time, the United States still struggled to climb out of the Great Depression, and businesses scrambled to turn a profit in a floppy economy. May’s company, Montgomery Ward, commissioned him to write a quick Christmas-themed book that could cheaply and effectively win the hearts of children. With this thought in mind, May created a small book, only 89 couplets, that included borrowed lines from Clement Clarke Moore’s “A Visit from St. Nicholas” and theme’s from Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale “The Ugly Duckling”. Rudolph’s 32 page tale became a gimmick for children; a promotional gift awarded to children who visited any of the department’s 620 locations. The store gimmick worked; the department store handed out 2.4 million books in 1939 and 3.6 million in 1946. (Klein) With six million books indirectly promoting the department store, Christmas became a bigger brand in the market, at least for Montgomery Ward. The 32 page book has since been stripped and modified into a short film. Added characters in the film, like the Abominable Snowman and Hermy the Elf have altered the content of the children’s story and have added more labels for commercial markets in future years. These…

Imagine that you trained all your life for that special moment of playing in your first NHL game. At the beginning of your first shift in the game suddenly another player’s stick comes up and strikes you in the eye. This incident ends your career. This could have been prevented if you wore a visor. I think visors should be mandatory in the NHL in order to improve a player’s safety. Statistics have proven players who wear visors in the NHL play less aggressive. There are many incidents involving sticks and pucks going into player’s faces. A recent incident occurred between Philadelphia’s Chris Pronger and Toronto’s Mikhail Grabovski. Furthermore, two years ago a former NHL player Brad May, Gave a speech supporting the use of visors.…

PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a psychiatric disorder that can occur following the experience or witnessing of life-threatening events such as the military combat, natural disasters, terrorism incidents, or any major tragedy. This is common in the life of veterans and is the leading cause of suicide among veterans. A VA patient who survived in Baghdad shares his experience with PTSD and explains how he knew he had this disability. Many veterans speak out about this issue and describe their continuous anger, alcohol addiction, and constantly wanted to fight. They usually feel very isolated and distant from their loved ones. One patient states, “PTSD involves rocketing into extreme states of stress re-activity; in the form of terror, rage, and uncontrollable impulses, and plunging into equally extreme states of being shut-down—exhaustion, emotional numbing, despair, and dissociation”. PTSD is about having fear and anxiety, allowing veterans to rage with anger and different emotion. There are many factors to PTSD, which affects others in different ways; or example, using video games to keep them occupied, spending money due to the lack of impulse control because of changes in their brain, and even not obtaining another job.…
