Persuasive Speech On Brutality
My fellow citizens, I am here today to address an issue that is ongoing in our country. The increase in brutality towards individuals involved in the LGBT community is quickly becoming a problem in today’s world. As the president of this country and as a Brilombian citizen, I vow to put a stop to this. As individuals on this earth our purpose is to love, so we should support all forms of love. Instead of disrespecting and making our fellow humans feel worthless, we should accept and welcome them with open arms. It’s time to stop shunning others because they don’t fit our image of ‘normal’. It’s time for a change. But the world won’t change because you wish it to, we’ll have to work together to make it happen. The idea of equality isn’t

Throughout history, society has shown a particular dislike for groups of people who did, or did not follow the “social norm;” two groups that fit this criteria are people of the LGBT and African-American communities. With laws and other restrictions such as interracial and same-sex marriage bans, and the Jim Crow laws being passed against them, LGBT and African-American people have faced many trials. African-Americans were denied the right to be called human because of their skin color. LGBT people were denied their right to be called human because they did not find themselves attracted to who society felt they should. After reading George Chauncey’s “The Legacy of AntiGay Discrimination” and Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech, it has become apparent that there are many similarities between people of the LGBT and African-American communities.…

Our country, founded on the premise that we are all created equal, endowed by our creator, with certain unalienable rights isn’t holding true to its declaration. In a recent study conducted by The University of Virginia, almost one in four Americans polled do not believe that all men are created equal. Equality in this country has been an issue long debated and dates back to the beginning of our founding, starting with women’s rights. Recently, the virus of inequality has spread to the gay community. Discrimination against homosexuals is wrong. As quoted by Harvey Milk “It takes no compromise to give people freedom. It takes no survey to remove repression.” As the land of the free, majority of us have the right to marry and reproduce without judgment. Unfortunately 1.7 million Americans are not granted that right due to the inequality and discrimination against them. Macklemore’s “Same Love” and “Marriage = Biology” addresses inequality, discrimination and gay rights differently. Though “Marriage = Biology” presents its argument for assimilation in an effective, strategic and structured manner, “Same Love” utilizes ethos, style and pathos to establish the idea to influence the reader’s viewpoints on gay rights.…

Wouldn’t it be scary if someone decided that you should disappear because he thinks you do not have the right to live because of your race or religion? Well yes, it would be scary and possible. This sort of an act is known as genocide. A typical definition of genocide is the intension to eliminate, murder certain group of people because of their race, beliefs or even political and economic status. Throughout the decades, genocide has occurred in more than one occasion, causing wars, slaughters and destruction of cities and towns even though every time when one genocide is taking place we promise that it will not happen again but still it does. I personally think that genocide is by far the most horrible crime in humanity, where hatred, superiority and personal memories are so greater that mankind is forced to commit these crimes and do not even feel regret for what they have done.…

This is a country where many unarmed civilians have suffered injuries or been killed at the hands of police officers. Drastic changes are needed to solve the issue of police brutality. Such excessive force by police officers is very disturbing to the community. People around the country are fighting for a country where law enforcement treats all communities with dignity, employs restraint on the power police officers, and only use the necessary force to maintain the community’s safety. Over the years there have many cases involving police brutality such as the cases of Rodney King, Timothy Thomas, and Eric Garner. Many people feel that nothing has changed with the issue of police brutality since juries still acquitted police officers, cops get their jobs back, and brutality happens again. But change has occurred and some things have become better as a result of it being publicized and causing public outrage.…

In looking to solve them, I’ve discovered an integral part of my identity: I’m gay. I’d probably known for a while, but it had been - and sometimes still is - easier to fool myself into disbelief. Looking back, I had found my pair of shoes, and I chose to put them on for years, hiding behind a facade of myself no matter how much it hurt. It’s crazy to realize that, though I’ve been willing to fight injustice on multiple levels, I’m sometimes still afraid to confront who I am. Nevertheless, I’m grateful for people like Harvey Milk and the Stonewall rioters - those who with great sacrifice have ensured my experience will be far less challenging than theirs were. To further what others have begun, I’m currently engaged in supporting the adoption of LGBTQ-protection legislation in my hometown. Fighting for human rights in a politically conservative, economically depressed area is gritty work which can quickly become all too personal. Late nights working with members of the city council and Human Rights Campaign demonstrate how complex and controversial these issues are, but achieving success will have palpable effects on the lives of others. There could be no greater…

When signing up to be an organ donor you usually think only your major organs will be used; however, something as small as a ligament of yours is used in popular surgeries such as anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstructions. When someone tears their ACL they usually have a choice to have an autograft, or use one of their own ligaments, but they can also choose to have an allograft, or take a cadaver’s ligament to repair it. Each has it’s advantages and disadvantages, but I personally think that the better option is the allograft because I think the advantages are better than using your own ligament from another part of your body. The advantages consist of faster operative time, less post-operative pain, and a faster recovery time.…

Hello lesbian and gay Americans. I am proud to stand before you as a lesbian today. With hearts full of love and the abiding faith in justice, we have come to Washington to speak to America. We have come to speak the truth of our lives and silence the liars. We have come to challenge the cowardly Congress to end its paralysis and exercise moral leadership. We have come to defend our honor and win our equality. But most of all we have come in peace and with courage to say, "America, this day marks the end from exile of the gay and lesbian people. We are banished no more. We wander the wilderness of despair no more. We are afraid no more. For on this day, with love in our hearts, we have come out, and we have come out across America to build a bridge of understanding, a bridge of progress, a bridge as solid as steel, a bridge to a land where no one suffers prejudice because of their sexual orientation, their race, their gender, their religion,…

PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a psychiatric disorder that can occur following the experience or witnessing of life-threatening events such as the military combat, natural disasters, terrorism incidents, or any major tragedy. This is common in the life of veterans and is the leading cause of suicide among veterans. A VA patient who survived in Baghdad shares his experience with PTSD and explains how he knew he had this disability. Many veterans speak out about this issue and describe their continuous anger, alcohol addiction, and constantly wanted to fight. They usually feel very isolated and distant from their loved ones. One patient states, “PTSD involves rocketing into extreme states of stress re-activity; in the form of terror, rage, and uncontrollable impulses, and plunging into equally extreme states of being shut-down—exhaustion, emotional numbing, despair, and dissociation”. PTSD is about having fear and anxiety, allowing veterans to rage with anger and different emotion. There are many factors to PTSD, which affects others in different ways; or example, using video games to keep them occupied, spending money due to the lack of impulse control because of changes in their brain, and even not obtaining another job.…

Attention Getter: I would like to start my presentation off by telling you all to ask yourselves a series of fairly straight forward questions. I want you to take a look at you’re, any hand and ask your selves “Who’s hand is this?” Do the same with your other hand, and now both legs and your arms if you would like. If I am not mistaking the answer to all your questions are mine right. They are your hands, legs, and arms. What I am trying to get through to you all today is that your body is your body and that a person should be able to profit of his or her own body if done in a safe and controlled way.…

I'd like to solve the problem of so many people being killed due to gun violence. There shouldn't be as much access to the various amounts of weapons that there are. Publicly selling these weapons, cause people to want more. “The more you get, the more you want,” is something I've heard many times in my life. Hearing that over and over I started to see it in action in things like this. Although gun stores require background checks, they don't have crazy checks. Saying guns are not needed is kind of a stretch; judging from where I was brought up. There's a good amount of people who really do need a gun for protection, whereas others have just to tote for power or for intentional harm to others. Weapons are needed by military not…

Thesis Statement: The Gay Rights Movement dates back to the 19th century. By 1970 gay and lesbian organizations existed all over the United States and in other countries all over the world. Some supporters of the movement would say that our society as a whole has made great strides towards acceptance of homosexuality. However, gays and lesbians are still fighting for equality in 2009. The issues are vast and widespread, with same-sex marriage at the top of the list. In the world that we live in today one might be surprised to learn how many countries are accepting of gay and lesbians, as well as how many are not. The world has made progress within the last decade regarding this issue, but definitely not enough. We need to take steps to protect and balance Gay rights.…
