Should elders above the age of 65 be allowed to drive?
• Specific purpose
To persuade the audience to if not want to change the laws when it comes to our elderly and their access of being able to drive a motor vehicles, at the very least, to do a better job of being more cautious with the elderly and access to driving.

General Purpose: To persuade
Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience to make changes/laws that address issues that are currently at hand.
Thesis: I live in Port Saint Lucie, Florida and about a week or so ago, a 98 year old male and his wife were driving on the wrong side of the road, with their headlights off because they apparently were not working, and ended up accidentally killing two females, age 17 and 18.

Currently, there are laws (different in every state) that require things such as vision test or competency test for those who are above a certain age limit. Orientation to 2nd plan (e.g., the proposed plan) B. However, the age limit as I said, varies from state to state. The limit for the state of Florida is 80, and all that is required is passing a simple eye test. Just this one test is not alone enough to prove competency and nor should it be.
