PEST CONTROL IN FOOD MANUFACTURING FACIITY
A case study of ABC Food Industries (Pvt) Ltd.
ABSTRACT Pest control in food manufacturing industry is critical legislative and food safety standard’s requirements. Most of the foods born illnesses are linked with pests because microbes for these diseases either have part of their life cycle on these pests or use the pests as career / vector. The pests also cause severs economic loss by contamination of food products and food materials by droppings, dead body parts or damage by eating. The ultimate impact of any incidence of pest contamination in food can result in serious prosecution and severely bad impact on brand image. Awareness of behaviors of pest, thorough inspection and designing consistent preventive and corrective measures with minimum impact on environment or personal safety can help to control pests on long term bases. The objective of this paper is to elaborate that how pest control involves strong scientific, technical and strategic basis to ensure thorough control that can guarantee safety against high risk. It also mentions that how right selection and location of corrective measures, chemicals and monitoring devices can decides the scope and spectrum of defense. Qualitative model of Systems Thinking explains this reality through causal loops diagrams showing positive and negative polarities.
