Peter Stark’s article As Freezing Persons Recollect The Snow—First Chill—Then Stupor—Then The Letting go: the cold hard facts of freezing to death talks and explains what happens to the human body when a person is freezing to death but it also gives an enjoyable story for the reader. The character in this story is in his way to a friend’s house for dinner and night cross country ski when his jeep slides off the road and gets stuck in a snow bank. Stark made it clear that his character was not panicked at first but just simply worried about missing the dinner with his friends. Not wanting to miss his plans the character puts his skis on, looks at the map, and heads to the cabin on top of the hill. While this story is unfolding Stark includes scientific data about the lowest core temperature a human can have before perishing. The character wants to save time by going up the steep hill instead of following the road that has many switch backs this is when everything starts to go wrong. The character goes for about an hour with no sign of the road, while assessing the map he hears a metallic pop and a piece of his binding has popped out. The character is trying to find the piece of his binding and while he does this his body temperature begins to lower after finding the piece his core temperature has lowered a substantial amount. The character has now started to panic and decides to go back to the jeep and its warmth on his way down he falls and lands pretty hard and he is feeling very tired so decides to rest. The rest of the story goes on with him losing and gaining conciseness but his body is too weak to get up and move on and more data about core temperatures and hypothermia. The friends find the character in the snow half naked but he isn’t dead he has a faint heart beat so they take him to the hospital and the doctor brings up his core temperature. The character survives.…

The author begins the segment by taking the voice of a witness of Myrtle's death, the "young greek, Michaelis" in order to reveal details to the reader that would have otherwise remained shrouded in mystery as the usual first person narrator, Nick, was not present at the scene. The structure of the section is not unlike the structure of a witness statement, with the emphasis on specific dialogues and time suggesting that the chronology of the novel has again been jumbled and has been set ahead of the default time frame. Fitzgerald reinforces the concept of the 'statement' being from Michaelis' perspective with the utilisation of narrative gaps, because as a single character within the novel there is no potential for him to be a third person, omnipresent narrator.…

On October1, 1750 Peter Salem was born. Peter Salem was a black African American soldier and patriot. Though Salem’s birth year is not certain he was born a slave in Framingham, Massachusetts. His owner, Jeremiah Belknap, named him after his hometown of Salem, Massachusetts. In America’s early years, Massachusetts, monitoring an insurrection by Blacks, made it illegal for them to serve in the military. When the need for soldiers increased during the French and Indian Wars Blacks were pressed into military duty. In mid-1775, the Massachusetts Committee of Safety recruited only free Blacks. Salem had been sold to Major Lawson Buckminster, who freed him. He became one of the Minutemen heroes of the American Revolutionary War. On April 19, 1775, he fought at Concord, Massachusetts. A week later, he enlisted in Colonel Nixon's Fifth Massachusetts Regiment. He served in Captain Drury's company and fought with Drury at the Battle of Bunker Hill. At dawn on June 17, 1775, General William Howe ordered fire on the Americans three times and drove them northward across Bunker Hill. In this battle the Americans had 400 dead and wounded men; the British lost more than 1,000. Salem was credited with the shot that killed British Major John Pitcairn. Salem re-enlisted in 1776 and fought at Saratoga and Stony Point. General George Washington forbade blacks from soldiering. After Virginia's governor, Lord Dunmore, freed slaves to serve the British, Washington reversed his own orders, and in January 1776, Salem re-enlisted. After the war, Salem built a cabin near Leicester, Massachusetts, and worked as a cane weaver. He died in the Framingham poorhouse in 1816. He is buried at the Old Burying Ground. In 1882, the town of Framingham erected a monument in his honor.…

    Peter Brown

In Peter A. Brown’s “Restoring Perspective: $1,000 for the Prom Is Immoral”, I believe he is attempting to show the importance of the morality of money and I think in made the prom his main point. My hero is the principal, who canceled his school's senior prom, not just to prevent underage drinking and sex at post-event parties, but also to make the kids and parents consider how they spend their money. It is the best recent example of an authority figure standing up to both the culture of conspicuous consumption and of rights without responsibilities. When teenagers, or for that matter adults, think it is the norm to spend $200 on tennis shoes, $250 on blue jeans and $5 on a cup of coffee, it's no wonder our society has lost its sense of perspective (Burton, 2011, pg. 9). What Kenneth Hoagland, the principal at Kellenberg Memorial High School in Uniondale, N.Y., did in refusing to accept the excesses of the prom, which he rightly labeled “an exaggerated rite of passage that verges on decadence,” was demonstrate common sense. Hoagland rightly thought that there is something innately wrong with students spending $1,000 or more on their prom outfit, flowers, limousines and the rest. And that didn't count the cost of the post-prom parties at beach houses or “booze cruises” that students attended, where the use of alcohol and the lack of supervision created “a time of heightened sexuality in a culture of anything goes,” as he put it. Kellenberg High School, he said, “Is willing to sponsor a prom, but not an orgy” (Burton, 2011, pg. 9).…

The Christians around the time I Peter was written were undergoing some intense persecution. Socially they were shunned, abused, insulted and ridiculed, and Peter realized that the circumstances were getting worse. Nero was Emperor of Rome during the time I Peter was written. He oversaw the persecutions of Christians. Peter wrote this letter to offer encouragement to Christians suffering this persecution. (I Peter 2:18-20) As a result the church in Jerusalem was being scattered throughout Asia Minor. Some of the ways Christians were being persecution during Nero’s time were, being nailed to crosses or sewn up in the skins of wild beasts and left in the sun to die a horrible and painful death. They were used as torches to illumine Nero’s parties.…

Nouthetic counseling (Greek: noutheteo, to admonish) is a form of pastoral counseling that holds that counselling should be based solely upon the Bible and focused upon sin, and that repudiating mainstream psychology and psychiatry as humanistic, radically secular and fundamentally opposed to Christianity. Its viewpoint was originally articulated by Jay E. Adams, in Competent to Counsel (1970) and further books, and has led to the formation of a number of organizations and seminary courses promoting it. The viewpoint is opposed to those seeking to synthesize Christianity with secular psychological thought, but has failed to win them over to a purely Biblical approach. Since 1993, the movement has renamed itself Biblical counseling to emphasize its central emphasis on the Bible. The Baker Encyclopedia of Psychology and Counseling states that "The aim of Nouthetic Counseling is to effect change in the counselee by encouraging greater conformity to the principles of Scripture."…
