Baby Peter Connely (Baby P)
Peter connelly died aged 17 months in August 2007 at home in Haringey, north london after months of abuse. Peter suffered more than 50 injuries and had been visited 60 times by the authorities in the space of eight months before his death.
There was lack of communication between the social workers,doctors, police and everyone else involved in the case, they were clearly not working together which eventually lead to the death of Baby P.Everyone involved in baby p's case could of done something to prevent this from happening. Peters GP was critisised for not raising concerns when he found bruising on the childs head and chest. The police were also criticised for not investigation suspicious injuries and the school peters siblings attended hadnt mentioned the difficulties they had with the mother. The social workers and managers didnt think peter was being harmed. All these agencies failed to realise the risk peter connely was at, along with the fact that the mothers violent boyfriend was living at home and could of been abusing the little boy.
It was said in the investigation the family lacked urgency and the agencies didnt challenge connellys poor parenting or focus on the childs welfare. According to the investigation the home was disorganised, dirty and smelly,the report showed baby p's mother, tracy connelly had a troubled childhood and noted she was placed on a child protection register at 10 due to neglect, nobody thought about the fact her bad expiriences as a child could of had an impact on her own parenting.
The child protection services of Haringey and other agencies involved in baby p's case were widely criticised. The GP who dealt with peter was suspended, social workers involved in the case were sacked for missing countless oppurtunities to prevent baby p's death, managers were dismissed for the failing of the peter connely case.
