Philip Raeisghasem is definitely a role model to those seeking a career in Engineering. Raeisghasem, currently a graduate student, obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering at Louisiana Tech. “LA Tech” is also the same college that Raeisghasem attends for his PhD in Engineering. His research work is in Cyberspace Engineering, specifically in Machine Learning, where he tries to create a way for computers to get better at learning many different things at once. “Right now,” …show more content…
According to Raeisghasem, “A lot of research is driven by what's popular, since research requires money and more people pay money for popular things (by definition).” He adds that he found this field “out of pure luck” and that his interest in this field just stuck as he took more computer science classes that went in depth about Machine Learning. Besides his interest in Cyberspace Engineering, Raeisghasem’s interest in this field was secured because of the fiscal incentives that it offered.
The topic then transitions to a point where Philip Raeisghasem comments on success and the type of writing that he does as a graduate Engineering …show more content…
When it comes to writing though, Engineering students deal more with learning to communicate their work to different audiences. An example that Raeisghasem gives is that when communicating with professors or peers, documents are written in the form of lab reports that involve detailing methods and results of various experiments that have been conducted. This type of writing is “concise yet descriptive.’ The purpose of writing is to reduce “superfluous” language while trying to convince others that one is knowledgeable in what he/she is
