When one views the life of the Apostle Paul in the New Testament it is evident that he had a heart to disciple others. The evidence at hand identified Paul as more than an individual who had doctrinal knowledge, for he was the quintessential model for living out the standards of Christian behavior. In his letter to the Church of Philippi Paul encourage them to “Whatever…

The letters that Paul wrote while imprisoned focused on the unification of the church, and encouraged followers to be steadfast in their mission to spread the gospel. He addressed the topic of slavery when writing to his friend, Philemon, who was angry about his slave, Onesimus, running away. Pauls asked Philemon to not only spare the life of Onesimus, but to also count him as a brother in Christ Jesus. In his later letters, Paul spoke about that fact that the church should be prepared to face persecution, and should be prepared to give their lives for the cause, just as Jesus gave his life for the mankind.…
Part One of Elmer Towns’ Concise Bible Doctrines introduces Christian theology by outlining the key pieces of the doctrine to help the reader understand Christianity and faith. Towns begins by saying that the main purpose of Bible doctrine is to communicate the gospel to the people at a point of need. Every man has the same need because every man is cut off from God. Man is born with a sin nature, and because he is less than holy, he is isolated and alienated from God. Death is imminent for everyone, but God communicates through the Bible that through Jesus Christ, man can be saved. The word “gospel” means “good news.” It is the responsibility of every Christian to reach out in relationships to the unsaved in sharing this news, and to other Christians in fellowship. Christians are called to seek God, and study the Bible to learn to know Him better, and worship Him always. Proper worship of God requires faith; the source of which is the Bible. Doctrinal faith is the beginning and the test of Christianity. If our statement of faith is wrong, than our faith is misplaced. Our faith must be grounded on correct knowledge of God. However, intellectual knowledge of God is not enough. Emotional expression and volition are equally important. The Holy Spirit acts on behalf of Jesus Christ to plant faith in a Christian’s heart. He indwells us, and helps us exercise our faith daily. We can grow in our faith by studying God’s word, seeking the Lord, confessing sin, actively following biblical principles, and constantly communicating with God. Faith is ultimately a reliance and trust of God, and the Bible teaches us to rely on Him for everything.…

The people of Philippi were primarily Greek and Roman citizens which meant that the primary language of the people was greek in addition to the official language of latin. Looking at a few verses in the first chapter of the book of Philippians we can see that Paul is in prison while he is writing this letter, but he doesn't allow this state to hinder his encouragement to the church as he writes, "Because of my…

Opponents of Paul’s authorship points out that Philemon was the house Church at Colossae, and the author of Colossians never mentions him (Harris, 2014). Scholars state that the terminology in Colossians is different from the early Pauline works, much so that it is believed that one of his disciple wrote it (Kealthley, 2004). It is also argued that the…

Throughout Paul’s letters to surrounding churches, spreading from the Philippians to the Colossians to the Romans, Paul addressed a number of issues regarding how individuals should live their lives before Jesus’ return from heaven for judgment. He preached to both Jews and Gentiles, lending to a feeling of acceptance and approval of people from all sorts of backgrounds, signifying that all have a chance to make their way into the Kingdom of Heaven. The apostle Paul wrote the letter Ephesians to the church in Ephesus. Paul was in prison in Rome when he was writing this letter at about 60 A.D. Some people question as to who wrote Ephesians, but I believe and trust that it was Paul the apostle because there is such a great amount of evidence that he wrote it. The style and format of the letter to the Ephesians was…
